Ladies and gentlemen of the Republican party – your ‘brilliant’ presidential candidate.
His watered down, simplistic approach to this deep, complex, visceral issue is almost painful to read.
The quote, via CNN:
“It just seems that there’s a lack of spirit between the white and the black. I mean, it’s a terrible thing that we’re witnessing,” he said. “You are seeing it, I’m seeing it, and you look at what went on last night in Charlotte, a great place, and you just see it. There’s somewhat — and I see it even going out. There’s such a lack of spirit. There’s a lack of something, something that’s going on that’s bad, and what’s going on between police and others is getting worse.”
Trump went on to suggest stop-and-frisk as a viable tool to stopping crime in America.
New York City’s controversial stop-and-frisk program led tons of complaints that the practice led to racial profiling.
In 2013, a federal judge ruled the practice was unconstitutional as data bore out that it unlawfully targeted blacks and Latinos.
Trump’s answer to America’s criminal and/or racial woes is to enact some version of an unconstitutional practice. As he attempts to woo the black vote, he’s saying “relinquish your civil liberties.”

| Tulsa Police Officer Betty Shelby |
Yahoo News has the details:
Prosecutors in Tulsa, Oklahoma, charged a white police officer who fatally shot an unarmed black man on a city street with first-degree manslaughter Thursday.
Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler filed the charges against officer Betty Shelby, who shot and killed 40-year-old Terence Crutcher on Sept. 16. Dashcam and aerial footage of the shooting and its aftermath showed Crutcher walking away from Shelby with his arms in the air.
The footage does not offer a clear view of when Shelby fired the single shot that killed Crutcher. Her attorney has said Crutcher was not following police commands and that Shelby opened fire when the man began to reach into his SUV window.
But Crutcher’s family immediately discounted that claim, saying the father of four posed no threat to the officers, and police said Crutcher did not have gun on him or in his vehicle.
ICYMI, here’s the helicopter view of the incident:
Republican National Committee spokesman Sean Spicer is first out of the gate in setting the bar low for Donald Trump for the upcoming presidential debate.
Spicer all but says Trump will be a winner just by surviving the debate.
Via press release:
“Clinton is a career politician who has spent years sharpening her debate reflexes and beefing up on public policy. Donald Trump is new to the format.
“Aside from primary debates (which have lower levels of attention on them and many more participants) Trump’s lack for formal, political, one-on-one debate experience gives Clinton a significant advantage.
“This view is informed in large part due to Clinton’s adroit performances in past debates. Clinton’s been at it since she was on the debate team in high school, and she has shined on some of the biggest stages before.
“She knows how to debate and by all accounts she is a methodical and intense consumer of information in her preparations beforehand.”
It’s a common strategy for candidates and their surrogates to downplay their perceived strengths. and acknowledge their opponent’s skills ahead of presidential debates. This tactic leaves the candidate open to appear as if they exceeded expectations after the debate.
This chilling short film, American Male, from director Michael Rohrbaugh explores the inner monologue of one hyper-masculine frat bro that becomes an unrelenting stream of consciousness afraid of any social perceptions that are less than masculine identifiers.
Steroids, working out, practicing beer pong, chugging beer and more become the daily routine in an effort to avoid any possible personality traits that could be perceived as gay or feminine.
The film’s off-screen narration consists entirely of the rules of the masculine road:
“Order beer. Not wine. And beef, not chicken. Never light beer, though. And tofu. Can’t get more gay than tofu.”
“At a young age, I began to closely observe the people around me. The way they talked, the way they walked, what they said, where it got them. Now, I am no longer a person, but a set of social cues.”
The film was a winner in MTV’s Look Different Creator Competition, which invited emerging filmmakers to create groundbreaking videos on the topic of privilege.
After calling the Black Lives Matter movement “a stupid waste of time,” and saying low voter turnout on behalf of African-Americans is indicative of “the way they’re raised,” Donald Trump’s Ohio campaign chair, Kathy Miller, has resigned.
Oh, did I mention she told the Guardian, “I don’t think there was any racism until Obama got elected?”
Seriously.
Kathy Miller, who is white and chair of the Republican nominee’s campaign in Mahoning County, made the remarks during a taped interview with the Guardian’s Anywhere but Washington series of election videos.
“If you’re black and you haven’t been successful in the last 50 years, it’s your own fault. You’ve had every opportunity, it was given to you,” she said.
“You’ve had the same schools everybody else went to. You had benefits to go to college that white kids didn’t have. You had all the advantages and didn’t take advantage of it. It’s not our fault, certainly.”

As President Obama did 2014 in a pitch to get younger voters’ support for Obamacare, Hillary Clinton stops by for an interview with Zach Galifianakis’ bewildering talk show, Between Two Ferns.
With an often deadpan stare, Hillary shows considerable control (which she’ll need in the upcoming debates with the Orange one) while taking in Zach’s off-kilter hosting style.
The Verge weighs in:
At the start of the interview, Galifianakis asks her if she’s excited to be the first “girl president,” then follows up by reminding her that “for a younger, younger generation you will also become their first white president, so that’s pretty cool, too.” Later he asks, “When you see how well it works for Donald Trump, do you ever think ‘Oh, I should be more racist?’” Clinton delivers a solid performance as “person who is annoyed with Zach Galifianakis.”

Cause, that’s what Avengers do – save the day.
From TIME:
In case anyone needed an extra incentive to vote in this fall’s presidential election, Avengers director Joss Whedon has enlisted a bevy of celebrities and the possibility of a Mark Ruffalo nude scene to urge people to vote.
In a video campaign for his PAC titled “Save the Day,” A-list celebrities such as Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson and Julianne Moore rub shoulders with small screen stars like Matt McGorry, Jesse Williams and Neil Patrick Harris to encourage Americans to vote this November.
Like Hollywood get-out-the-vote efforts of years past, the video mostly encourages voters to do their civic duty, but there’s a hint that at least some of the stars would also prefer if you cast your ballot against Republican nominee Donald Trump. Actor Don Cheadle doesn’t mention Trump but does refer (not for the first time) to “a racist, abusive coward who could permanently damage the fabric of our society.”
The video also promises, tongue in cheek, that if voters do their part, actor Mark Ruffalo will do a full-frontal nude scene in his next film.
Wait, wait, wait – what’s this “tongue in cheek” stuff, TIME? I want my full-frontal, naked Ruffalo.
Scarlett Johansson herself promises he’ll be going “full monty.”
I want the “full Marky.”
Please vote. #ImWithHer
