And just a reminder of what he accomplished:

“Pharma Douche” Martin Shkreli Found Guilty Of Fraud

Martin Shkreli, the “most hated man in America”

Infamous “pharma douche” Martin Shkreli, has been convicted on three of eight counts on Friday, after a five-week trial in the Federal District Court in Brooklyn.

Accused of eight counts of securities and wire fraud, Shkreli now faces up to 20 years in prison.

From the New York Times:

The conviction, even as a mixed verdict, was a shattering defeat for the divisive Mr. Shkreli, who said before the trial that he was “so innocent” that the judge, jury and prosecutors would apologize to him afterward.

Mr. Shkreli was accused of securities and wire fraud related to two hedge funds he ran, MSMB Capital and MSMB Healthcare. Prosecutors charged he then illegally used a pharmaceutical company he founded, Retrophin, to repay the defrauded MSMB investors.

The prosecution brought forth an “avalanche” of evidence, as the prosecutor Jacquelyn Kasulis put it in her rebuttal argument, that included a threatening letter he sent to the wife of a former employee, statements he sent to MSMB investors showing great returns at the same time he had no money in fund accounts, three versions of a backdated agreement to make it look as if MSMB Capital had invested in Retrophin when it had not, as well as claims about assets under management that were wildly out of line with his actual fund size.

“It’s time for Martin Shkreli to be held accountable,” she said.

Shkreli came to the public spotlight after raising the price of a drug called Daraprim from $13.50 to $750 overnight. However, this case had nothing to do with the Daraprim debacle.

Idina Menzel Hands The Mic To A Texas Boy And His “Let It Go” Steals The Show

That time that Broadway star Idina Menzel hands the mic to a young boy named Luke in Texas and he blows the crowd away with his chorus of “Let It Go.”

Via The Advocate:

During a rendition of “Let It Go” at a concert Sunday in Grand Prairie, Texas, the powerhouse Frozen singer invited a group of children to the stage. Then Menzel approached the only boy, who gave his name as Luke. She asked if he knew what song she was performing.

“’Let It Go,’ obviously!” said the boy, to the laughter and cheers of the crowd. “What kind of question is that?”

“Let me just tell you what I’ve been through,” said the singer, who explained that during her Idina Menzel World Tour, “every time a boy comes up, he tells me he doesn’t really like this song.” She recalled one young man saying he even preferred Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop the Feeling!” from the film Trolls.

“Heck to the no!” Luke exclaimed. “I’m offended.”

A laughing Menzel handed the microphone to Luke and requested he sing the chorus of “Let It Go.” He blew the audience away. Menzel, impressed, even requested an encore, since the audience’s cheers drowned out part of his performance.

“Can you all just shut up for a minute and let him sing it again?” she asked. Afterward, Menzel remarked, “I can’t sing like that!”

New Music: Hercules & Love Affair “Fools Wear Crowns”

Hercules & Love Affair drops the “insanely personal” new song “Fools Wear Crowns” from the upcoming album Omnion just in time for the weekend.

As he celebrates four years of sobriety after years of serious drug addiction, Hercules’ Andy Butler explains that “Fools Wears Crowns” is “insanely personal” and as such is indicative of Omnion as a whole.

“It’s literally an apology, an attempt at amends,” says Butler. “A few years back I was in the grip of a brutal drug addiction that saw me overdosed in hospital every weekend. I was really decimated. My family said they couldn’t be around me anymore unless I spent a long haul in rehab, but at the height of my addiction I went to Europe and didn’t talk to them for over a year. My mother and my sister were in tears the moment I played them that song.”

Butler explains further to Pitchfork:

“Fools Wear Crowns” was an opportunity for me, in a small way, to express some remorse. It was a little attempt at [making] amends for a specific relationship, but also many of the relationships in my life that suffered during that period. The lyrics acknowledge that we as humans enjoy, in a weird way, watching people fumble. But it’s not always buffoonery that you’re seeing. In my case, I think there was an illness at play. The song examines lens through which we look at people’s messiness. It’s like saying, “I’m vulnerable, prone to mistakes, and I’ve made some.”

The chill vibe paired with the sparse electronic arrangement and melancholy lyrics lays the groundwork for an emotionally open, pensive musical landscape.

I’m a fool when I’ve been drinking
I’m glad that I didn’t today
It was foolish to lie to you
To think I could wish all the clouds away
Why yell at the sky if it’s going to rain?
It’s going to rain, don’t be foolish

Trump Covers NEWSWEEK: “Lazy Boy”

From the Newsweek article:

Now that he’s president, Trump frequently departs the White House and spends the weekend golfing at either his South Florida resort, Mar-a-Lago, or his country club in the New Jersey suburb of Bedminster. The promise he’d made a year before was discarded so quickly, you have to wonder if he even remembers making it. Politico did the legwork: George W. Bush didn’t golf for the first five months of his presidency, while Obama stayed away from his beloved links for four months following his inauguration. Trump held out for all of two weeks. He has visited a golf club 40 times since taking office in January, according to the self-explanatory site Trump Golf Count, which estimates the forays have cost American taxpayers $55 million. Another Trump tracker, this one by The New York Times, finds that his visits to Trump-branded properties total 56 days, nearly a third of his time in office.

For those who think the “Trump Golf Count” is mean-spirited, I’ll just say had Trump not harangued Obama about golfing for years, and then turned to the golf course so incessantly himself in an amazing feat of hypocrisy, no one would care.

You get what you put out.

Russian Investigation: Special Counsel Mueller Impanels Grand Jury, Subpoenas Issued

From the Washington Post:

Special counsel Robert S. Mueller III began using a grand jury in federal court in Washington several weeks ago as part of his investigation of possible coordination between the Kremlin and the Trump campaign, according to two people familiar with the inquiry.

The development is a sign that investigators continue to aggressively gather evidence in the case, and that Mueller is taking full control of a probe that predated him.

Mueller’s investigation now includes a look at whether President Trump obstructed justice by firing FBI Director James B. Comey, as well as deep dives into financial and other dealings of former national security adviser Michael T. Flynn and former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort.

In federal cases, a grand jury is not necessarily an indication that an indictment is imminent or even likely. Instead, it is a powerful investigative tool that prosecutors use to compel witnesses to testify or force people or companies to turn over documents.

The assembling of a grand jury does not necessarily mean that an indictment is certain. But, it allows the Special Counsel to subpoena individuals to testify under oath and to force individuals or companies to turn over documents.

The New York Times reports that subpoenas have been issued in regard to the June 9, 2016, meeting at Trump Tower between Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner and a “Russian government attorney,” as well as business documents from former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.

It’s notable that the escorts on the site signed up voluntarily. There seems to be hypocrisy at play here in that there are dozens of straight escort sites in operation in NYC that have gone unpunished.

In a stream of several texts, then-17-year-old Carter encouraged 18-year-old boyfriend Conrad Roy III to follow through on thoughts of killing himself. #evil
