Loony Benham Brothers Blame 9/11 & Hurricanes On The Gays

In a video acknowledging the anniversary of 9/11 as well as the destruction of Hurricane Irma, crazy AF anti-LGBT loons David and Jason Benham put the cause of the disasters squarely on, who else?

The gays.

From the video:

“As a nation, if you would have told us back then, in 2001, that in 2017 we would be completely redefining what gender means, what marriage means, what sexuality means … I would’ve said, ‘there’s no way that would happen in this country!’”

[snip]

“The boundaries that God has put out for us morally are for our flourishing and for his best in our lives. When we say that gender, there is no boundaries. And when we say that sexuality, there is no boundaries. When we say that marriage can be whatever you want it to be, we are breaching the boundaries of God.”

There’s more along the way: Bible, bible, blah, blah, blah, water, wind, hate, hate, hate, gays…

New Music: Kirstin “Bad Weather”

Loving the new music video, “Bad Weather,” from Kirstin Maldonado’s debut EP, L•O•V•E.

Going by the moniker ‘kirstin’ on this solo venture, the singer/songwriter thinks of the track as “the anthem for everyone.”

“I always see people being really shitty on social media and just hate on each other whether it’s because of who they love or who they identify as or people being just so dumb or mean or hateful for no reason,” Maldonado recently told HuffPost.

Speaking as a Mexican-American LGBT ally whose Pentatonix band mates are queer pop artists Mitch Grassi and Scott Hoying, she adds,  “It’s important to accept yourself and believe in who you are and not let all that hateful talk bring you down and ruin how special each person is.”

The video pairs cyber-bullying and messages of hate (“faggot,” “slut,” “why don’t you die”) against a backdrop of stormy, turbulent weather.

Maldonado says the song is a meditation on her own life experiences and perspective gained from watching how others treat her friends.

And speaking of friends, yes, she is still a member of 3-time Grammy Award winning group Pentatonix. Like Hoying and Grassi, who have their own side gig as SuperfruitAnd speaking of friends, yes, she is still a member of 3-time Grammy Award winning group Pentatonix. Like Hoying and Grassi, who have their own side gig as Superfruit, kirstin says her musical tastes are broader than the a cappella/pop sounds of Pentatonix.

“I love being able to fulfill such a huge and special part of myself with Pentatonix,” she says, “But there is still so much more to me that, honestly, people don’t get to see because we’re in a group.”

We see you, kirstin, and we definitely like what we see.

kirstin’s R&B/pop debut EP L•O•V•E is available at all digital download outlets.

Some news items you might have missed:

• My buddy Brandon Pereyda, currently one of the stars (and poster boy) for Cirque du Soleil’s Zumanity here in Las Vegas, gets in “mid-show workouts” during his already grueling performances. And yes, everything in the pic is real from the mohawk to the body to everything else 🙂

• Former Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore, who was removed from office for blocking same-sex marriages in his state, could very well be the next U.S. Senator from the “Yellowhammer” state. And he’s not sure if gays should be executed or not for being who they are.

• Russian politician Vyacheslav Nikonov told Russian TV audiences recently that the United States intel community “missed it when Russian intelligence stole the president of the United States.”

• Is it weird that not only does Donald Trump Jr. face the pictures of his children on his desk AWAY from his view, but he also has a pic of HIMSELF right there in the middle? #hmmm

• More big stars are signing on for guest spots on the upcoming Will & Grace reboot beginning September 28 on NBC. Jane Lynch and Andrew Rannells will guest star together joining previously announced appearances by Ben Platt, Harry Connick, Jr., Minnie Driver and Bobby Cannavale.

• I’m certain that Los Angeles’ 100% score on the Human Rights Campaign’s Municipal Equality Index helped the “city of angels” book the upcoming 2028 Summer Olympics & Paralympics.

• Any day is a good day for some fresh Cher. Like this new spot for GAP which pairs the diva with Future on a new take on Sly and the Family Stone’s “Everyday People.”

Video: Ezra Klein Talks To Hillary Clinton About “What Happened”

Everyone I know has shared this really frank, insightful interview with Hillary Clinton regarding her new memoir, What Happened.

Ezra Klein of VOX asks really thoughtful questions, not the same “four minute” interview queries you see all the time.

Hillary is relaxed and very candid about what went wrong for her during the 2016 campaign, and she doesn’t hold back in being accountable for her own mistakes.

From Ezra Klein:

On Tuesday morning, I sat down with Clinton for an hour on the first official day of her book tour. It is a cliché that stiff candidates become freer, easier, and more confident after they lose — see Gore, Al — but it is true for Clinton. Jon Stewart used to talk of the “buffering” you could see happening in the milliseconds between when Clinton was asked a question and when she answered; the moments when she played out the angles, envisioned the ways her words could be twisted, and came up with a response devoid of danger but suffused with caution. That buffering is gone.

In our conversation, she was as quick and confident as I’ve seen her, making the case for her politics without worrying too much about the coalitional angles or the possible lines of offense. And she says plenty that can, and will, offend. In our discussion, she lit into Bernie Sanders’s single-payer plan, warned that Donald Trump is dragging us down an authoritarian path, spoke openly of the role racism and white resentment played in the campaign, and argued that the outcome of the 2016 election represented a failure of the media above all. This was Clinton unleashed, and while she talked about what happened, it was much more interesting when she talked about what she believed should have happened.

I highly recommend you watch below.

Olivia Newton-John On Aussie Same-Sex Marriage: No Reason To Debate, Love Is Love

International superstar Olivia Newton-John visited with Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull in Canberra in hopes of the Australian government ponying up more funding for brain and breast cancer research at her Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Center.

Olivia lost her sister four years ago to brain cancer and is currently on her second cancer journey as her breast cancer from 25 years ago returned earlier this year.

She also reaffirmed her support for same-sex marriage as Australia prepared to vote on approving marriage equality.

A longtime LGBTQ ally, Olivia was one of the very first Aussie celebrities to speak out in support of same-sex marriage: “With respect to marriage equality I believe that no one has the right to judge and deny couples who love each other the ability to make a marriage commitment. Love is love.”

Congress Condemns White Supremacists – Will Trump Sign It?

(image via Flickr – Robert Thivierge)

From NBC News:

Congress has approved a resolution condemning white supremacists, neo-Nazis and other hate groups following a white-nationalist rally in Virginia that descended into deadly violence.

The resolution recognizes Heather Heyer, who was killed Aug. 12, and 19 other people who were injured after a car allegedly driven by a neo-Nazi slammed into a crowd of demonstrators protesting the rally in Charlottesville. It describes Heyer’s death as a “domestic terrorist attack” and acknowledges two Virginia state troopers who died in a helicopter crash while monitoring the protests.

Six senators from both parties, led by both of Virginia’s Democratic senators, Mark Warner and Tim Kaine, introduced the measure, which the Senate approved unanimously Monday night. The House approved the joint resolution Tuesday by unanimous consent.

The measure, which now goes to President Donald Trump for his signature, urges the Trump administration to speak out against hate groups that espouse racism, extremism, xenophobia, anti-Semitism and white supremacy. It also calls on the Justice Department and other federal agencies to “use all resources available” to improve data collection on hate crimes and “address the growing prevalence of those hate groups in the United States.”

I’ll be fascinated to see how Trump, who had dodged many opportunities to denounce these hate groups in the past, will handle this.
