Brad Paisley & Carrie Underwood Have Some Trump Fun At CMAs #BeforeHeTweets

Back in the day, when the Dixie Chicks said a little something/something about then-President George W. Bush they practically lost their careers.

But last night, Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley had them rolling in the aisles as they poked a bit of fun at Donald Trump with this little parody of Underwood’s hit, “Before He Cheats.”

It should be noted, though, that Randy Rainbow did come up with the “Before He Tweets” idea a while back. Enjoy it again below:

Robbie Rogers Retires From Professional Soccer

LA Galaxy defender Robbie Rogers announced his retirement from professional soccer this week which means there are currently no openly gay athletes in the “big four” professional sports in the U.S.

Rogers broke down that historic closet door in 2013 when he came out and simultaneously retired.

But the 30-year-old athlete came out of retirement only three months later with the support of fans and players, playing for the LA Galaxy since 2013.

With a career spanning over 11 years in Major League Soccer, he has won two MLS Cups and represented the U.S. Olympic Team in Beijing in 2008.

From Robbie’s Instagram:

As a young boy I dreamed of becoming a professional soccer player and representing my country in front of the world. But as a teenager I grew more and more consumed by fear and shame. And sadly, at some point the scared kid inside me decided that pursuing my dream meant sacrificing a part of myself and hiding my sexuality from the world instead of embracing it.

My happiest years as a player are the ones where I could walk through the stadium at the end of games down the tunnel to my partner and son waiting for me at the other end. And my only regret in my eleven year career are the years I spent in the closet. I wish I could have found the courage that so many young individuals have shared with me in the past five years to live honestly and openly as a gay person. These are the young people that inspired me to overcome my fears and return to playing. They’re still the kids that send me letters every week. To those kids, I say thank you. My proudest accomplishment in my career is helping to create a more open sport for you.

None of this would have been possible without my teammates and brothers on and off the field, without the LA Galaxy and Bruce Arena who saw me as another player and not a distraction, or without the fans who judged me for my work ethic and my play and not my sexuality. And finally, it couldn’t have been possible without my family, who loved me through all of my ups and downs and always supported my dreams and still do.

Lastly to all of the women and men who are still frightened to share their truth with the world, I’d encourage you to come out. By sharing who you are you will not only be improving your own life but inspiring and literally saving the lives of young people across the world. You deserve to take that same walk, down the players tunnel and have your own partner or loved ones waiting for you.

Again thank you to everyone who watched or help me follow these dreams. I could never have imagined the happiness I’ll take with me into retirement and into my next chapter.

Since coming out as gay, Robbie has been inducted into the National Gay and Lesbian Sports Hall of Fame.

Robbie lives in Los Angeles with fiancé Greg Berlanti and their son, Caleb.

Thank you, Robbie, for being first. For your courage. For your persistence.

We are grateful forever for your audacity, daring and fearlessness to step through that door.

Sony Pictures UK Attempts To Straight-Wash Upcoming Gay Romance “Call Me By Your Name”

The Twitter feed for Sony Pictures UK was shamed into deleting a tweet that appeared to “straight-wash” the upcoming gay-themed indie film, Call Me By Your Name.

Pairing an image of two of the film’s young actors with the quote, “It’s a romance overwhelming in its intensity, a heart that swells until it has to burst,” you would have thought this was a movie about budding young heterosexual romance.

Of course, being one of the most highly anticipated films of the year, movie fans know it’s actually a coming of age story centered on a burgeoning gay romance between a young college professor and a male teenager.

Boo, Sony Pictures UK…

Call Me By Your Name is in theaters November 24.

Lin-Manuel Miranda To Return To HAMILTON For Puerto Rico Engagement In 2019

Pulitzer Prize/Tony Award-winning Lin-Manuel Miranda is taking his Broadway mega-hit musical, Hamilton: An American Musical, to Puerto Rico for a three week run in January 2019.

And Miranda says he plans to reprise his performance as the title role for the limited engagement.

From The Hollywood Reporter:

Hamilton will play a three-week run, Jan. 8-27, 2019, at Teatro UPR, the theater at the University of Puerto Rico’s main campus in the Rio Piedras section of San Juan. Built in 1939, Teatro UPR is considered Puerto Rico’s most iconic stage, and recently hosted Spanish language productions of Evita, Into the Woods, Master Class, The Sound of Music and Once on This Island.

Miranda’s first musical, In the Heights, also played in Puerto Rico in 2010, with the actor-composer also reprising his role. Though a Puerto Rico run has been in the works, its announcement comes with an urgency following the devastation of Hurricane Maria. Since then, Miranda has been working solely and tirelessly on relief efforts, including releasing the all-star charity single “Almost Like Praying.”

“Bringing Hamilton: An American Musical to Puerto Rico is a dream that I’ve had since we first opened at The Public Theater in 2015,” stated Miranda. “When I last visited the island, a few weeks before Hurricane Maria, I had made a commitment to not only bring the show to Puerto Rico, but also return again to the title role. In the aftermath of Maria we decided to expedite the announcement of the project to send a bold message that Puerto Rico will recover and be back in business, stronger than ever.”

The Broadway company of Hamilton has grossed $275 million at the Richard Rodgers Theatre thus far.

The show also has companies in Chicago and Los Angeles (through December 2017), a second national tour to launch in February in Seattle, and a London company will debut next month.

The Liberal Redneck & Buddies Perform For Gay Naturists

The Liberal Redneck, Trae Crowder, and buddies Drew Morgan and Corey Ryan Forrester were recently invited to perform for the Gay Naturists International event in the Poconos.

Only snag was: Crowder assumed the word “nature” being a part of the title meant it had something to do with – what else? – nature.

Or the environment.

Or, something.

And he was kinda sorta right, but not really.

Check out Trae, Drew and Corey as they explore the world of gay nude guys in the wild 🙂

Corey Lewandoski: My Memory Has Been ‘Refreshed’ Regarding Russia Emails From Carter Page

Former Donald Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, who months ago claimed he’d never met campaign foreign policy adviser Carter Page, now says his memory has been “refreshed” about knowing Page.

Via Politico:

Page, who testified last week before the House Oversight Committee as a part of their ongoing probe into Russian election meddling in 2016, told congressional investigators in testimony revealed Monday that he had asked he former Trump campaign chief and Hope Hicks, now the White House communications director, about his trip to Moscow in 2016 in which he met with Russian officials and discussed the presidential campaign.

During an appearance on Fox News Tuesday, Lewandowski maintained that he scarcely knew Page, whom he described as a “low-level volunteer” in the Trump campaign.

“To the best of my recollection, I don’t know Carter Page. To the best of my knowledge, Carter Page … had no formal role in the campaign,” Lewandowski said. The former Trump campaign manager had similarly told Fox News in March that he “never met Carter Page.”

Lewandowski, who’d previously rebuffed questions about whether he knew of Page’s planned Moscow trip, acknowledged after being challenged that he had been aware and had communicated with Page about the trip.

“My memory has been refreshed,” Lewandowski said, while noting that the exchange came just prior to him exiting the campaign and so “there were many other things on my mind.”

Democrats Have A Big Night One Year After Trump

It was a big night for the Democrats across the nation as several states held off-year elections.

The big prize was the governorship of Virginia, where Democrat Ralph Northam had led in polls for weeks. But Republican Ed Gillespie pulled to within spitting distance in the last few days utilizing Trump-like tactics as polls showed only a 2 point lead for Northam.

Nerves were supremely settled, though, as the Democrat won the night by a whopping 9 points, 53.9%/45%.

Additionally, Democrat Justin Fairfax won his race to become Virginia’s next lieutenant governor. He is only the second African-American to win statewide in Virginia.

Donald Trump, who had recorded robocalls for Gillespie, chided the loser after the race was called, tweeting, “Ed Gillespie worked hard but did not embrace me or what I stand for. Don’t forget, Republicans won 4 out of 4 House seats, and with the economy doing record numbers, we will continue to win, even bigger than before!”

In New Jersey, Democrat Phil Murphy easily bested Republican Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno by a margin of 56%/43%. Guadagno was severely hurt by her boss, Gov. Chris Christie, whose approval rating had plummeted to a dismal 14%.

New Jersey also elected Sheila Oliver as its first female African-American lieutenant governor.

Great news for LGBT candidates as well.

History was made when Danica Roem became the nation’s first-ever openly transgender person to be elected to a state legislature. Even better, she defeated Robert G. Marshall, who authored Virginia’s hideous anti-transgender “bathroom bill.” Marshall has proudly referred to himself as Virginia’s “chief homophobe.” Talk about irony 🙂

Jenny Durkan won her race for Seattle mayor becoming the first out lesbian to hold the office and the first woman since 1928.

Andrea Jenkins was elected to the Minneapolis City Council making history as the first trans woman of color elected to public office in the United States.

More history was made in Palm Springs as Lisa Middleton became the first transgender person elected to a non-judicial office in California with her election to city council.

Diversity won the day in Charlotte, North Carolina, as Democratic councilwoman Vi Lyles was elected mayor becoming the first African-American woman to win the office since the city’s incorporation in 1768.

And Wilmot Collins will be Helena’s new mayor and the state’s first black mayor.

Virginia: Danica Roem Becomes First Out Transgender Elected State Legislator Ever

Danica Roem has become the first out transgender state legislator ever elected.

From the Human Rights Campaign:

Today, HRC and Equality Virginia, the statewide organization working for LGBTQ equality, hailed Danica Roem’s historic victory in the Virginia District 13 election. Unseating anti-LGBTQ Delegate Bob Marshall, Roem’s electoral victory will make her Virginia’s first out transgender public official and the nation’s only out transgender state representative.

“Danica Roem’s historic victory is a clear warning to anti-equality lawmakers across the country that the days of attacking LGBTQ people to scare up votes are over,” said HRC President Chad Griffin. “HRC was proud to mobilize voters to support Danica Roem’s trailblazing candidacy, and we look forward to working with her to help continue moving equality forward in Virginia.”
