Out Music: Eli Lieb “Next To You”

Randy Report favorite Eli Lieb drops his latest single, “Next To You.”

Creative use of video projections here as the woofy object of Eli’s affections doesn’t even see the handsome singer.

As always, top-shelf production and a strong hook make this another winner from Eli.

I’ve shared Eli’s music often on The Randy Report – check out more of his music here.

Christmas Music: The Carpenters “Merry Christmas, Darling”

Richard Carpenter composed the music for this song when he was a mere 19 years old.

He and his sister Karen were singing in the choir at California State University Long Beach, and they had grown tired of the same holiday songs, year in year out.

Richard asked his choir director is there were something else to sing, and his director – Frank Pooler, recalled a lyric to an unfinished song he’d begun 20 years earlier for a girlfriend.
Remembering the lyrics, he gave them to Richard to work on for a new Christmas song.

The legend goes that it took Richard Carpenter only 15 minutes to come up with the melody that would become a holiday classic.

First released as a single on November 20,1970, the song was the inspiration for a Christmas album by The Carpenters, and on October 13, 1978, “Christmas Portrait” was released with a newly recorded version of the song. The song was also presented on their TV Christmas special in 1978 and became a hit all over again.

NY Times: Trump Watches Up To 8 Hours Of TV News Daily

The New York Times has a fascinating piece up chronicling Donald Trump’s daily television viewing habits.

You know – the television he says he has no time to watch.

Around 5:30 each morning, President Trump wakes and tunes into the television in the White House’s master bedroom. He flips to CNN for news, moves to “Fox & Friends” for comfort and messaging ideas, and sometimes watches MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” because, friends suspect, it fires him up for the day.

Energized, infuriated — often a gumbo of both — Mr. Trump grabs his iPhone. Sometimes he tweets while propped on his pillow, according to aides. Other times he tweets from the den next door, watching another television. Less frequently, he makes his way up the hall to the ornate Treaty Room, sometimes dressed for the day, sometimes still in night clothes, where he begins his official and unofficial calls.

As he ends his first year in office, Mr. Trump is redefining what it means to be president. He sees the highest office in the land much as he did the night of his stunning victory over Hillary Clinton — as a prize he must fight to protect every waking moment, and Twitter is his Excalibur. Despite all his bluster, he views himself less as a titan dominating the world stage than a maligned outsider engaged in a struggle to be taken seriously, according to interviews with 60 advisers, associates, friends and members of Congress.

Before taking office, Mr. Trump told top aides to think of each presidential day as an episode in a television show in which he vanquishes rivals. People close to him estimate that Mr. Trump spends at least four hours a day, and sometimes as much as twice that, in front of a television, sometimes with the volume muted, marinating in the no-holds-barred wars of cable news and eager to fire back.

Check this tweet from July, and remember Trump said he’d have “no time” for golf if he was elected president… #liar

Sarah Paulson Was Advised To Keep Relationship With Holland Taylor Under Wraps

American Horror Story star (currently starring in The Post) opened up to The Edit about her “unconventional” choices in life, like her relationship with actress Holland Taylor.

Via The Washington Blade:

“Early on, when people found out I was with Holland, some said: ‘I think you have to be careful, I’m afraid it’s going to affect your career negatively.’ I was like what? It never occurred to me at all,” Paulson says.

Paulson openly declared her love for Taylor during her Emmys acceptance speech in 2016 when she proclaimed “Holland Taylor, I love you.” The actress admits she debated not giving her girlfriend a shout-out for fear of people’s opinions.

“It occurred to me, ‘Should I not?’ And then I thought, ‘Why would I not?’” Paulson says. “The fact I’m having this thought is wrong. But I had a moment of societal concern; wondering if, maybe, people who didn’t know that about me would be like, ‘Wait, what?’ But then, you know, I did it anyway.”

However, Paulson says she’s aware her relationship with the 74-year-old actress is “unconventional.”

“My life choices are, um, unconventional. I’m with a much older person and people find that totally fascinating and odd, and, to me, it’s the least interesting thing about me. But I do feel a bit unconventional. I am a woman of a certain age who chose not to have children, and who has made my career my priority. I am the captain of my own ship, and I’ve never looked to anyone else to validate that, or tell me it’s okay,” Paulson says.

2017 Average Monthly Job Gains Lag Behind 2016

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the U.S. added 228,000 jobs in November 2018.

The unemployment rate remained unchanged at 4.1%.

While Donald Trump has touted his “job creation” skills, the fact is he has lagged behind the average number of jobs added each month during President Obama since the end of the Great Recession.

For instance, during Obama’s last year in office, the economy averaged 190,000 new jobs a month while 2017 has averaged 174,000 a month.

Roy Moore Accuser Speaks Out: “Is The Party More Important Than What Happened?”

Beverly Young Nelson, one of several women who have accused Alabama Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore of sexual misconduct, told Tom Llamas of ABC News today that it “sickens” her to think that Moore will get elected to the U.S. Senate.

According to Nelson, Moore accosted her after her waitress shift when she was 16-years-old.

“It sickens me to wonder what may go on with him if he gets into office,” said Nelson. “Maybe, you know, he could be doing this still. We don’t know. And then again I hope that he’s changed. I pray that he’s changed. I really do.”

And to those who say none of the allegations matter as much as keeping a Republican in the Senate seat for Alabama, Nelson asks, “Is the party more important — really — than what happened?”

ABC News points out that Moore denies even knowing any of his accusers, and his supporters call the women liars.

The report also includes news of a quote from Moore on the campaign trail when Moore was asked for his opinion on when the last time America was “great.”

Moore’s response: “I think it was great at the time when families were united—even though we had slavery—they cared for one another. Our families were strong, our country had a direction.”
