North Korean leader Kim Jong Un used his New Year’s Day address to warn the U.S. not to test him while striking a softer tone with South Korea, including the possibility of sending a delegation to next month’s Winter Olympics.
“The entire United States is within range of our nuclear weapons, a nuclear button is always on my desk. This is reality, not a threat,” Kim said in the annual address. “This year, we should focus on mass-producing nuclear warheads and ballistic missiles for operational deployment. These weapons will be used only if our society is threatened.”
So, of course, Donald Trump had to whip out his Twitter account and slap back tweeting:
North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un just stated that the “Nuclear Button is on his desk at all times.” Will someone from his depleted and food starved regime please inform him that I too have a Nuclear Button, but it is a much bigger & more powerful one than his, and my Button works!

“A nuclear war cannot be won and must never be fought. The only value in our two nations possessing nuclear weapons is to make sure they will never be used. But then would it not be better to do away with them entirely?”

Trump just tweeted that he has a bigger nuclear weapon button than North Korea. We might just be doomed. He’s tweeting about nuclear war like it’s a PlayStation Game.— deray (@deray) January 3, 2018
Seriously, @realDonaldTrump, just whip your dick out already. I’m sick of this shit. Let’s get it over with. Hey, I don’t want to see that withered bastard any more than you do, but if we’re going to measure dicks, let’s just fucking do it.
Some eagle-eyed Twitter folks noticed that within minutes of Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah announcing his retirement at the end of this year, Utah transplant Mitt Romney changed his Twitter profile ever-so-slightly.
It’s no secret that Romney has been eyeing the Utah Senate seat.
Republican Roy Moore (L) and Democrat Doug Jones (R)
Well, this is just delicious!
Last month, on the eve of the Alabama election to replace the Senate seat vacated by Jeff Sessions, Republican candidate Roy Moore watched his wife tell a crowd that rumors of the Moores being anti-Semitic were untrue because “One of our attorneys is a Jew!”
That lawyer, Richard Jaffe, was hired to defend the Moore’s son against drug charges in 2016.
It turns out Jaffe is a longtime friend and supporter of the Democrat in that race, Doug Jones.
Jaffe told the Washington Examiner he has been close personal friends with Doug Jones for more than 30 years and he both contributed to, and raised money for, his campaign.
“There could not be a more passionate supporter of Doug than me!” Jaffe said.
The Birmingham-based lawyer walked alongside Jones as he took center stage to deliver his acceptance speech and plans to be in the Senate gallery on Wednesday as Jones is sworn in.
Remember when Roy Moore's wife insisted that she and her husband couldn't be anti-semitic because one of their attorneys was a Jew? Anyway, turns out that this attorney, Richard Jaffe, actually voted for Doug Jones. Also raised money for his campaign. Which is just so…perfect. pic.twitter.com/i1jJQX4ObH— Michael Arnovitz (@MichaelArnovitz) January 2, 2018
Even though he’s played more golf in his first year than any other president, it’s the White House spin that Donald Trump’s time on the golf course has been valuable for “relationship building.”
Reporter: “Can you tell me the biggest single thing the president has accomplished for the American people during his time on the golf course?”
Sarah Sanders: “Developing deeper and better relationships with members of Congress”
I wonder how long it took the geniuses in the press office to think that up?
According to White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, it’s really only the press that has an issue with his 91 golf trips.
When asked about the transparency issue of non-confirmation of rounds of golf, Sanders pivoted back to the predictable claim that Trump enjoyed one of the “most successful first years in office” of any president.
I’m guessing that’s kinda like “passing the most legislation” since Truman lie?
Watch below.
Press Sec. Sanders: Pres. Trump has used golf to develop “deeper and better relationships with members of Congress…we’ve had an extremely successful 2017, and some of that’s due to the relationship building he was able to do there.” https://t.co/NkJuIoh4fPpic.twitter.com/nzUUVH5c6g
Tony Award winner and out activist Billy Porter shares a new installment of “The Billy Porter Experience Concert Experience” from his 2017 summer tour.
In a moving compilation of two Porter tunes – “Time” and “Love Is On The Way” – Billy continues to reveal the passion, power and sensitivity of his exponentially growing gifts.
With the video, Billy shared:
This installment of THE BILLY PORTER CONCERT EXPERIENCE brings hope! Now it the TIME for change. It’s a moment to keep ourselves open to the knowledge that LOVE IS ON THE WAY! Actually, love hasn’t gone anywhere. We just need to remember how to engage in that space. 2018 for me will be about holding on to the truth that LOVE WINS! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
As you may know, Billy’s recording of “Time” became an overnight hit when it was featured on So You Think You Can Dance to devastating effect.
And “Love Is On The Way” was included on the soundtrack for the Bette Midler/Goldie Hawn/Diane Keaton film, The First Wives Club.
Completely in the moment, check the unfiltered emotion at the 5:18 mark. Watch below.
If you missed it, check out my podcast interview with the formidable Mr. Porter here.
Having held his seat in the U.S. Senate since 1977, Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah is the longest-serving Senate Republican.
But today, Hatch announced he will retire at the end of the year after four decades in office.
The veteran senator made his announcement via video today. “When the president visited Utah last month, he said I was a fighter. I’ve always been a fighter. I was an amateur boxer in my youth, and I brought that fighting spirit with me to Washington,” he said. “But every good fighter knows when to hang up the gloves. And for me, that time is soon approaching.”
This will come as a blow to Donald Trump who has encouraged the Utah senator and solid Trump-supporter to run for re-election.
The move opens the door for former Massachusetts governor and 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney to run for the open seat in solid red Utah. Romney is now a resident of the heavily Mormon state.
Romney has indicated for months he would be interested in running but only if Hatch were to choose to step aside.
You may recall that during the 2016 presidential campaign, Romney repeatedly called Trump “a fraud,” with the Trumpster returning fire saying that Romney had “choked like a dog” in the 2012 election.

As Orrin Hatch announces his retirement and Mitt Romney emerges as the favorite to take the Senate seat, let’s all celebrate the fact that @MittRomney once said this:
“Donald Trump is a fraud. His promises are as worthless as a degree from Trump University”#UTSen
Several folks say they are waiting for Romney to be told, as a past presidential candidate like Hillary Clinton, to “take up knitting.”
Mitt Romney lost and the media is begging him to run for office. Hillary Clinton won the popular vote and they told her to take up knitting. Sexism at work.— Kaivan Shroff (@KaivanShroff) January 2, 2018

Workplace deaths in the coal mining industry increased last year to their highest point in three years.
A total of 15 miners died on the job in 2017, Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) data show, compared with eight in 2016.
That year saw the fewest mining deaths since records began.
West Virginia had the most miner deaths in 2017 with 8. That was the total number of miner-related deaths in the entire U.S. in 2016.
Gee, do you think it has anything to do with all those pesky regulations Donald Trump is so proud of rolling back?
#ThingsThatMakeYouGoHmm
Since Trump took credit for no airline deaths last year, he must also take blame for the spike in coal mining deaths (where he actually rolled back safety and environmental regs). https://t.co/3Crqdrl9Ta
There hasn’t been a commercial airline death in the U.S. since 2009. So why don’t you take credit for something you actually did, like nearly double the number of deaths of coal miners you supposedly care about https://t.co/oIIJ6FassO
So since @realDonaldTrump is taking credit for there being no commercial airline deaths in 2017, will be accept the blame for coal mining deaths doubling? See how this goes @realDonaldTrump? You gotta accept the bad with the good when @POTUS. https://t.co/w9CjKkyfI1
