Are These Two ‘Queer Eye’ Celebs Dating?

Two stars of Netflix's 'Queer Eye' pulled an April Fool's Day-in-July Instagram hoax
Queer Eye stars Jonathan Van Ness & Antoni Porowski (via Instagram)

Fans of the Netflix ‘make better’ series, Queer Eye, had a social media meltdown when two of the show’s stars, avocado-loving foodie Antoni Porowski and mustachioed grooming guy Jonathan Van Ness, posted a photo on Antoni’s Instagram account of the two just about to engage in a hot and heavy make-out session.

Accompanying the photo was the caption, “I guess Amurica’s birthday’s our anniversary, babe,” complete with heart emoji.

Aw….

Over 700,000 fans ‘liked’ the post and 1,100+ commented with an array of rainbow and heart emojis.

One fan offered to be the flower girl at the boys’ wedding.

Another penned a voyeuristic, “I would watch.”

Some commenters, though, warned that if the July 4 announcement was not on the up-and-up, they would be done with the duo.

Wrote one fan, “If this is fake, I’m literally never French tucking again.”

Well,…

Today, Van Ness fessed up, taking to HIS Instagram to calm fans down, saying, “It was all Antoni’s idea [pride flag emoji], but maybe someday we will fall in love.”

He added a hashtag that read, “not a couple but it was fun right”

Fellow Queer Eye cast mate, Bobby Berk commented, “How much do I have to beg you to keep the jvntoni account up and running just for the content?”

Berk added, “Made the news and everything – that’s when you know you’re ICONS!”

In truth, it appears this is how the two jokers spent their July 4th holidays:

Happy Bday America 🏳️‍🌈 One of the things that makes me proudest to be American is the ability to openly dissent. To speak negatively of your government in many countries isn’t permitted, I’m grateful here that we are able to call things the way we see them. That being said, trans women of color are being killed by guns, queer lives are being taken by guns, all Americans lives have been effected by gun violence. The house passed a bipartisan gun violence bill to help close the loopholes in the background check system in gun purchases, it won’t get a vote because of @senatemajldr – it is supported by over 90% of Americans & 75% within the NRA. Or the #equalityact which also enjoys overwhelming public support which we desperately need passed to ensure equal rights for people despite sexual orientation or gender expressions at a federal level. What makes America great is our diversity, our ability to speak TRUTH to power, and our ability to VOTE. Use today to connect with people you care about to see what matters to them about what we want to see happen here in the United States. Do we want a senate that won’t even vote on bills passed by the house? Do we want leaders who openly defy the constitution, engage in subvert and overt racism or do we want fairness and equality? Do we want to sanction police brutality or do we want to feel safe around law enforcement? I want an America that is more fair, more united, and allows the opportunities that I’ve been able to have for all. To achieve change we have to talk to each other, let’s celebrate today but keep on speaking your truth to power. 🏳️‍🌈🇺🇸🇺🇸

Trump On Airport Gaffe: “The Teleprompter Went Kaput”

Donald Trump during his July 4th speech

Earlier today, I reported on Donald Trump’s embarrassing gaffe during his July 4th speech where he referenced the Continental Army taking over “the airports” during the Revolutionary War.

Here’s the quote from his speech:

“The Continental Army suffered a bitter winner at Valley Forge, found glory across the waters of the Delaware and seized victory from Cornwallis of Yorktown. Our Army manned the air, it rammed the ramparts, it took over the airports, it did everything it had to do.”

This afternoon, Trump explained the mistake saying the teleprompter “went kaput” so he kept going on his own explaining he “knew the speech very well.”

“I guess the rain knocked out the teleprompter,” he added. “It was actually hard to look at anyway, ’cause it was rain all over.”

So, the Donald is basically explaining that, without a teleprompter, he can’t help but say stupid things?

He says he knew the speech very well – so, does that mean the ‘airport’ comment was in the original text of the speech?

Remember when the Donald chided President Obama and Hillary Clinton for using teleprompters?

As we’ve learned over the past few years,… there’s always a tweet:

Civil Lawsuit Alleging Sexual Assault By Kevin Spacey Dropped Without Explanation

The young man who accused Academy Award winner Kevin Spacey of groping him at a Nantucket restaurant in 2016 has dropped his civil lawsuit

The young man who accused Academy Award winner Kevin Spacey of groping him at a Nantucket restaurant in 2016 has dropped his civil lawsuit

Local ABC affiliate WCVB reports the court filing alleging sexual assault by Spacey has been dismissed “with prejudice,” which bars the plaintiff from filing another case on the same claim.

From the court filing: “Plaintiff states that because no adverse party has served an answer or motion for summary judgment in this matter, Plaintiff is voluntarily dismissing this civil action.”

The lawsuit, filed on June 26, had sought a jury trial and damages for medical bills as well as emotional distress.

WCVB notes that the three year statute of limitations runs out this week.

Spacey still faces criminal charges in regard to the alleged sexual assault.

A hearing for the criminal case is scheduled for Monday.

Boston-based lawyer Marc Breakstone says the phrase “with prejudice” in the dismissal is a significant component to the case.

“I would say there is an overwhelming likelihood that there was a settlement and that the terms of the settlement will never be revealed because of a confidentiality provision,” Breakstone told the Boston Globe.

The veteran lawyer also surmises the criminal case could now be in jeopardy as well.

“I would say that the pros of Spacey will also come to a swift end because the [teenager] will not cooperate with the prosecution,” said Breakstone. “That’s the only plausible explanation for the sudden dismissal of the civil lawsuit.”

The allegations were made public in November 2017 by former local news anchor Heather Unruh, who claims Spacey groped her then-18-year-old son at the Club Car Restaurant in July 2016. Her son was employed there at the time as a bus boy.

According to documents filed in court, the teen asked to meet the Oscar winner after his shift ended at the restaurant. The young man admitted to investigators that he told Spacey he was 23-years-old.

Unruh says Spacey bought the teen several drinks, and eventually sexually assaulted her son by groping the teen’s leg. The court filing accused Spacey of unzipping the teen’s pants and groping him for approximately three minutes him without consent.

The teen admitted to police investigators that he didn’t say anything, attempt to stop Spacey, or walk away during the alleged assault.

During a December 2018 court hearing, Spacey’s legal team asserted the encounter was consensual.

Spacey’s attorneys point to the fact that the boy did not immediately report the incident to police. In fact, the teen wasn’t interviewed in person until a year later.

After the December court hearing, Spacey released a bizarre video via YouTube where he reprised his House of Cards character, Frank Underwood, urging the viewer to not rush to judgement.

“Despite even my own death, I feel surprisingly good, and my confidence grows each day that soon enough you will know the full truth,” said Spacey in the video.

The criminal case hit another snag last month when prosecutors told the court the teen’s cell phone had ‘disappeared.’ The prosecution reportedly used some text messages from the phone in justifying the charges against Spacey.

Spacey’s defense attorney, Alan Jackson, alleged some text messages had been deleted, and requested the chance to examine the phone.

The teenager’s lawyer, Mitchell Garabedian, told the court that the boy’s mother had given the phone to police investigators in December 2017, when the initial probe began, and neither the teen nor his parents “recall seeing the phone since.”

WCVB reached out to the teen’s mother, who declined to comment on the developments.

At the height of the #MeToo movement, Spacey was publicly accused of sexual assault and misbehavior by a series of men including actors Anthony Rapp, Guy Pierce, and Harry Dreyfuss, as well as crew members on the set of his Netflix series, House of Cards.

As a result of the wave of accusations, Spacey was dismissed from House of Cards and replaced in the film, All the Money in the World, after the movie had already been completed.

Additionally, he was dropped by his talent agent and publicist.

Mayor Pete Claps Back At Racist Troll At Campaign Event

Mayor Pete Buttigieg (L) shuts down racist troll at campaign event

Speaking to voters in Iowa during an Independence Day event, South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg clapped back at a man for making a racially-charged comment about black Americans.

Due to the recent police shooting of an African American man in his hometown, Mayor Pete has encountered questions and scrutiny on matters related to race on the campaign trail.

“Mayor Pete, there has been some controversy in South Bend between the police and the black community, and I have a solution for you, and I’d like you to make a comment on my proposal,” said a man who later identified himself as Dave Begley. “Just tell the black people of South Bend to stop committing crime and doing drugs.”

After a pause in the crowd, Begley was roundly booed as Buttigieg shook his head before responding, “Sir, I think racism is not going to help us get out of this drama.”

“No, no, just stop committing crimes,” insisted Begley. “It has nothing to do with race.”

p.s. when the subject of your suggestion is “black people,” the issue has intrinsically turned to race.

“The fact that a black person is four times as likely as a white person to be incarcerated as a white person for the exact same crime is evidence of systemic racism,” Buttigieg told Begley, as the crowd applauded. “It is evidence of systemic racism.”

“And, with all due respect sir, racism makes it harder for good police officers to do their job, too,” added the Democratic presidential contender. “It is a smear on law enforcement.”

As chants of “USA, USA” began, Mayor Pete stared the man down before continuing, “Sir, when black people and white people are treated the same by the criminal justice system, it will be easier for white people and black people to live in this country.”

“And it will be easier for law enforcement to do their job,” he added. “But racism has no place in American politics, or in American law enforcement.”

Politico reports that Begley spent the rest of the event looking at his phone.

Begley later told reporters he is not a member of the Carroll County Democratic Party, but he attended the event as a writer for a conservative blog, Power Line. According to the website, he is a practicing attorney in Omaha, Nebraska. He has posted several ‘reports’ following Democratic presidential candidates out on the campaign trail.

Saying he planned to file a “full report on this,” Begley insisted that he didn’t believe his comment was racist and said he “resented” Buttigieg’s response.

Begley told reporters after the question-and-answer session said he resented Buttigieg’s response. Begley said he didn’t think his comment was racist.

“I just urged him, in order to resolve the racial controversy in South Bend, to urge the blacks in South Bend to obey the law so they’re not going to have confrontations with the police,” said Begley. “And he dismissed me as a racist, which I resented, and he knows he’s wrong.”

Watch the confrontation below.

Revolutionary War Trump-Style: “Our Army Rammed The Ramparts, Took Over The Airports”

Donald Trump has been mocked across the interwebs for flubbing a line in his Independence Day speech about closing airports during the Revolutionary War
Donald Trump

During Donald Trump’s water-logged Independence Day speech, he referenced the war of 1812 as he spoke of our army “ramming the ramparts” and “taking over the airports.”

“In June of 1775, the Continental Congress created a unified Army out of the Revolutionary Forces encamped around Boston and New York, and named after the great George Washington, commander in chief.”

“The Continental Army suffered a bitter winter of Valley Forge, found glory across the waters of the Delaware and seized victory from Cornwallis of Yorktown.”

“Our Army manned the air, it rammed the ramparts, it took over the airports, it did everything it had to do, and at Fort McHendry (Trump’s word), under the rocket’s red glare it had nothing but victory.”

“And when dawn came, their star-spangled banner waved defiant.”

Clearly, Cadet Bone Spurs is confused about the date of that first flight at Kitty Hawk.

And the battle of Fort McHenry occurred during the War of 1812, not the Revolutionary War, but, hey…

The Twitterverse was highly amused:

Researchers: HIV Eliminated From Living Animals For The First Time

For the first time, researchers have found a way to eliminate HIV from living animals.

For the first time, researchers have found a way to eliminate HIV from living animals.

The approach combines two new technologies: slow-release antiretroviral therapy (known as LASER ART) which first suppresses the virus, then gene editing (known as CRISPR-Cas9) which effectively ‘slices out’ HIV-infected DNA.

Dr. Kamel Khalili, at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, told the local CBS News affiliate that, “For the first time, we were able to eliminate completely replication competent virus, HIV, from the infected animal.”

While antiretroviral drugs can decrease HIV in the body, they don’t get the job done entirely. LASER ART drugs consist of nanocrystals which can easily penetrate tissue where HIV may be hiding and slowly release over time, keeping the virus at low levels for weeks.

This means traditional antiretroviral meds don’t have to be administered as often.

Working with a specialists at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, the two teams were able to eliminate HIV in about a third of infected mice.

“The big message of this work is that it takes both CRISPR-Cas9 and virus suppression through a method such as LASER ART, administered together, to produce a cure for HIV infection,” Khalili told ABC News.

“The technique is very safe and efficient and able to completely eliminate the viral DNA forever,” he added.

The next step is to move to FDA-monitored testing on humans. A clinical trial is scheduled to begin in mid-2020.

Pro-LGBTQ ‘Friends Of The Court’ Briefs Being Filed By Diverse Sectors In Advance Of Title VII Arguments At SCOTUS

U.S. Supreme Court

In advance of the upcoming oral arguments at the U.S. Supreme Court regarding whether Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 protects LGBTQ workers from discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity, many sectors of America are urging SCOTUS to rule in favor of LGBTQ people.

A group of 36 former federal government officials who served during the Obama administration has filed a 43-page ‘friend of the court’ brief calling on the U.S. Supreme Court to uphold LGBTQ rights.

Additionally, over 34 prominent LGBTQ-friendly Republicans, led by former Republican National Committee chairman Ken Mehlman, have offered their own amicus brief which aims to ‘resonate’ with the conservative members of the high court on the issue.

Advocacy groups Family Equality, The Trevor Project, and PFLAG National submitted an their own amicus brief in support of queer employees in the critically-important LGBTQ employment discrimination cases that will be considered by SCOTUS in the 2019-2020 term.

And big business has weighed in as well with over 206 major corporations (including Apple, Amazon, American Airlines, Bank of America, Ben & Jerry’s, Coca-Cola, Domino’s Pizza, Goldman Sachs, IBM, Microsoft, Morgan Stanley, Nike, Starbucks, Viacom, Walt Disney and Xerox) signing on to their own brief in support of LGBTQ protections.

Swampity Swamp Swamp: ‘Donated’ Fireworks From Company That Lobbied White House On Tariffs

President Donald Trump's Fourth of July celebration will feature $750,000 of donated fireworks from an Ohio retailer who has lobbied the White House against expanded tariffs on Chinese imports.
Donald Trump

When someone does you a favor, it is appropriate to send a gift, I guess.

From ABC News:

President Donald Trump’s Fourth of July celebration will feature $750,000 of donated fireworks from an Ohio retailer who has lobbied the White House against expanded tariffs on Chinese imports.

And last week, the same day the donation was announced, the company — Phantom Fireworks of Youngstown, Ohio — got what it wanted: Trump decided to hold off on his threatened $300 billion in tariffs on Chinese goods, which include fireworks.

“This is another example of how private companies attempt use their money to influence the government by stroking the president’s ego,” said Jordan Libowitz with Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, a nonpartisan watchdog group.

Newsweek reports the owners of Phantom Fireworks, the largest consumer fireworks retailer in the country, are registered Democrats but voted in the 2016 Ohio Republican primary.

That said, they got their reprieve from tariffs, and are now donating to Trump’s ego rally.

You do the math.

Magnitude 6.6 Earthquake In Southern California

If you want to know what a 6.6 earthquake feels like, I’m in Las Vegas where I felt the entire house shake back and forth for over 30 seconds.

The earthquake’s epicenter was in Ridgecrest, California, over 200 miles away.
