Reality “star” Bailey Hanks spits on the hand that fed her

So apparently a reality show winner named Bailey Hanks, after being plucked from obscurity to star in a Broadway show – Legally Blonde – directed and choreographed by a gay man, written by a gay man, produced by some gay men, coached by gay men and performed with gay men, decided she wanted to make a special statement by not only eating at Chick-Fil-A (her right) but flaunting it on Twitter.

Good for her.

Now? The backlash…

Broadway’s John Carroll has written a fantastic rebuttal for the Advocate to this “Bailey Hanks” person who has slapped most of Broadway in the face by choosing (within her constitutional rights but sadly misguided) to make her “statement.”

From John’s article:

Bailey, you used gay people for your personal gain to make your dreams come true and then sold them down the river with your message condoning a company that is publicly known for discriminating. With your actions, you agreed to treat people like second-class citizens and doing so, disrespected my friends, family, my marriage and me, all this in an Instagram photo of your hate–filled waffle fries.

Stop hiding bigotry and hatred behind religion, let’s call it exactly what it is. If we are going to live by any biblical rule, let it be the golden one.

You really must read the entire take-down. Ms. Hanks deserves every word.

Don’t use the gays then spit on them. We have a talent for reminding you where – and from whom – your opportunities flowed.

p.s. No – I’m not adding the “Broadway” tag to this post. This person doesn’t deserve to be associated with such a noble community.

Date set for Nevada gay marriage lawsuit

U.S. District Chief Judge Robert Jones has set November 26th as the date he will hear oral arguments in the lawsuit filed by Lambda Legal Defense against the state of Nevada over differences in rights granted by the state’s domestic partnership law (passed in 2009) and the gay marriage ban that became part of the state’s constitution in 2002.

Judge Jones told lawyers from both sides that he plans to rely on written arguments, not courtroom testimony from people offered as experts. He also indicated that he looks to decide the matter quickly.

Chris Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson in “Red Dawn” remake

This will be a hit. Just watch.

Red hot Chris Hemsworth (“Avengers”) and Josh Hutcherson (“Hunger Games”), along with one of my favorite actors Jeffrey Dean Morgan, star in this remake of the 1984 original.

Like the original movie, the plot revolves around a group of high schoolers who defend themselves against an invasion — only this time it’s North Korea infiltrating a small town, not the Soviets.

The movie opens November 21.

Female boxer wins 1st gold medal for Ireland – hometown goes berserk

This seriously puts a smile on my face. This is what the Olympics mean to so many people around the world. Local pride. Just look at that amazing positive energy.

Boxer Katie Taylor of Bray in County Wicklow, Ireland won the country’s first gold medal of the London Olympics. Her hometown went appropriately nuts!

Just makes me smile…

US Olympian hottie Ryan Lochte could be the next “Bachelor”

Ryan Lochte, hottie US 2012 Olympian, apparently has his eyes on a new prize: being a reality TV star.

On an appearance with Matt Lauer on the TODAY SHOW he said,  “I’m definitely looking towards Dancing With the Stars and The Bachelor, so we’ll see what happens,” adding that he plans to move to Los Angeles and work on a fashion line. A rep for ABC would not comment on casting for The Bachelor.

As The Hollywood Reporter exclusively reported, Lochte’s sports agent, Erika Wright, said that the swimmer has multiple TV offers on the table.

“I cannot tell you the exact shows, but two different reality show concepts have been offered and one additional is being discussed,” Wright wrote in an e-mail, adding that American talk shows are angling to book Lochte as a guest when he returns to the States.

President Obama opposes Boy Scouts gay discrimination

Well, it looks like this is about the only thing Mitt Romney and the President agree on.  They both think the Boy Scouts of America should allow gays to participate.

“The President believes the Boy Scouts is a valuable organization that has helped educate and build character in American boys for more than a century,” White House spokesperson Shin Inouye said in the statement to The Washington Blade. “He also opposes discrimination in all forms, and as such opposes this policy that discriminates on basis of sexual orientation.”

Inouye also told The Blade that the President will not resign his position as honorary president of the organization as a result of this decision.
