Hillary Clinton’s popularity at all-time high

Top Democratic strategist James Carville has suggested that if Hillary decides to run, other top Dems may back off:

“We don’t need a primary. Let’s just go to post with this thing. We don’t want to fight with anybody over anything. The Republicans, they need a fight. Somebody’s got to beat somebody. We don’t want a primary. We like winning presidential elections. She’s popular. Let’s just go with it. I don’t know what she’s going to do, but I do know this: The Democrats want her to run. And I don’t just mean a lot of Democrats, I mean a whole lot of Democrats, like 90 percent across the country. We just don’t — we just want to win, we think she is the best person and shut it down. And that’s across the board.’

Absolutely Fabulous Christmas: Cold Turkey

Season 5 of Absolutely Fabulous included this holiday special that aired on Christmas Eve, 2003.
In “Cold Turkey,” Edina decides to stay home and celebrate Christmas with her baby granddaughter (Lola) rather than jetting off for a tropical holiday with Patsy, much to the latter’s brutal dismay.
In a dark but hilarious childhood flashback scene, we learn why Ms. Stone hates this particular day so much. Then a visit by Patsy’s older sister Jackie (“Pats, I’m 72”) results in a mishap that leads Edina to believe her BFF has died. But in the end, Patsy learns the true meaning of Christmas and even sits down to eat one of those “food things” with the rest of Edina’s family.

George Will: “The opposition to gay marriage is dying”

More and more polls continue to show the “one way trend” of public support for same-sex marriage.  As I’ve written here many times, the younger folks see the inequality of banning marriage equality.

Public Policy Polling found majorities in Oregon (54%) and New Jersey (53%) and near majority in Illinois (47%) support extending marriage to same-sex couples. In Illinois, 58% of people under 45 years old say yes to gay weddings.  Meanwhile, Politico found 40% of Americans support letting gays and lesbians marry. Again – young people are leading the way.

From today’s Politico survey: “A full 63 percent of 18-to-29-year-olds backed marriage…It dropped off to 36 percent support among both 30-to-44-year-olds and 45-to-59-year-olds. Only three in 10 seniors supported gay marriage.”

Asked about such numbers and the Supreme Court’s decision to hear two cases on marriage equality, journalist George Will broke it down like this: all the seniors brought up pre-gay rights are kicking the bucket.

“There is something like an emerging consensus,” he said on ABC News’ This Week. “Quite literally, the opposition to gay marriage is dying. It’s old people.”

Life of a Wal-Mart greeter

Story on Facebook today:

“Two hours into my first day of work as a Wal-Mart greeter, an ugly woman came in with her two kids. Hearing her swear at them, I said, ‘Good morning, welcome to Wal-Mart. Nice kids, are they twins?’ The mom answered, ‘Hell no, they ain’t twins. The oldest one’s 9, and the other one’s 7. Why would you think they’re twins? Are you blind or stupid?’ I replied, ‘I’m not blind or stupid. I just couldn’t believe someone slept with you twice. Have a good day, and thank you for shopping at Wal-Mart.’ My supervisor said I probably wasn’t cut out for this line of work!”

2012 White House Christmas Card featuring Bo Obama

Above is this year’s White House Christmas card featuring a painting of the fab Bo Obama taking a stroll through the snow.

Iowa artist Larassa Kabel’s painting depicts a snow-covered Bo running across the White House’s North Lawn, an homage to the 2010 snapshot below, which caught the 4-year-old playing in the snow during a February blizzard.
