Trailer: “Girl Most LIkely”

Starring Kristin Wiig, Annette Benning Matt Dillon and Darren Criss.

Love Annette Benning.

Kristin Wiig is all the thing right now. She is funny, although she does a lot of characters who make me uncomfortable with a kind of “loser” mentality. I’m about the only person I know who wasn’t in love with “Bridesmaids” for that reason.

I like Matt Dillon a lot, too. Always interesting in everything he does.

And of course, the GLEE fans will be clamoring for shirtless Darren Criss.

Another summer film to see. So many…

Three women missing for a decade rescued in Cleveland

An amazing story out of Cleveland today.

Charles Ramsay, a neighbor, yesterday rescued Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight from a Cleveland home where they had been kidnapped for more than 10 years, News 5 reports:

Hundreds of people gathered in the streets near 2207 Seymour Ave. in Cleveland, where the women were discovered. Cleveland police said Berry, DeJesus and Michelle Knight are alive, talking and appear to be OK.

“I heard screaming… And I see this girl going nuts trying to get outside,” said Charles Ramsey, a neighbor who found the women. “I go on the porch and she said ‘Help me get out. I’ve been here a long time.’ I figure it was domestic violence dispute.”

“She comes out with a little girl and says ‘Call 911, my name is Amanda Berry’… When she told me, it didn’t register.” He said he made the call and gave Berry the phone. When police arrived, officers asked him if he knew who he rescued.

Ramsay’s neighbors, three men ages 50, 52, and 54 have been arrested.

In the video below, hear Amanda Berry’s emotional 911 call to police:

Seventeen years ago today: DOMA introduced in Congress

DOMA – the “Defense of Marriage Act” – was introduced in Congress 17 years ago today.

I can’t tell you how much I hate the legislation, what it stands for and how strongly I feel it does NOT represent the best of America.  It is counter-intuitive to what America was based on: life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

With the decision to repeal DOMA in the hands of the US Supreme Court, there are 53 days left in this year’s term.  The decision by SCOTUS could come sooner, but no later than 53 days from today.

Lauryn Hill sentenced to 3 months prison for tax evasion

Ahh, I hate stories like this.  And for responsible adults who enjoy amazing success, there’s really no good reason. Makes me sad.

Grammy award-winning singer Lauryn Hill was sentenced Monday to three months in federal prison for failing to pay taxes on more than $2 million in earnings during a five-year period.

From NBC Entertainment News:

Lauryn Hill was sentenced to three months in prison during a hearing at a Newark, N.J., federal court on Monday, May 6, despite paying off her long-overdue taxes just ahead of her court appearance.

According to The Associated Press, Hill will not only serve time behind bars, but will also be sentenced to three additional months of home confinement. During the hearing Monday, the singer reportedly reiterated her intentions to pay off her debt.

Hill, 37, shelled out more than $970,000 to cover the three years’ worth of taxes that she owed in both state and federal taxes, her attorney Nathan Hochman told the Associated Press in an email Monday. The singer still faced up to a year in prison for each of the three tax evasion counts despite meeting the deadline, however.

In a courtroom statement, the 8-time Grammy Award winner said she had always intended to pay the overdue taxes, but found herself unable to raise the money during a period when she had dropped out of the music business.

Hill won fame as a member of the Fugees, and then launched a solo career that included the blockbuster The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. She pleaded guilty last year in the tax case.

The Making of “Behind The Candelabra”

The Making of Behind The Candelabra showcases Michael Douglas and Matt Damon’s fierce commitment of bringing truth to the love story between famed entertainer Liberace and Scott Thorson, played by Douglas and Damon respectively.

I’ve been surprised by not only the public’s but my own fascination with the Liberace story being told. To be honest, the video teasers and this featurette really intrigue me about this singular, original artist. I honestly can’t wait to see it on HBO.

Don’t miss it on May 26th at 9pm.

Bryan Fischer: President Obama wants to take guns away from evangelical Christians

Ok, it’s officially the “Day of Nutty News” I’ve decided.

If the videos of the bigots from “Stand with Scouts Sunday” weren’t enough today, we get news that consistent asshat Bryan Fischer of the misleadingly named “American Family Association” (they don’t really represent ALL families – like LGBT families) has announced that President Obama wants to disarm Christian gun owners:

American Family Association spokesman Bryan Fischer is convinced that President Obama’s pledge to “keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people,” a remark he made while speaking in Mexico City, is actually a veiled attempt to lay the groundwork to forcibly “disarm people of the Christian faith.”

Fischer said that Obama is “setting up the stage to take guns away from evangelicals” and classify them as terrorists: “‘You believe in Jesus Christ?’ ‘Yes I certainly do sir.’ ‘Give me your gun, we’re coming into your house and taking your guns, you’re dangerous, you’re a threat you’re an extremist, you’re a terrorist threat, we can’t let you have a gun.’”

I think this is all a contest between who can make the most false accusation before sun down.

SRSLY.

Pat Robertson: Gays can change just like rapists can…

“It is a hate crime to say somebody can change their sexual preference? … Anybody who has ministered to thousands of people…know very well that the power of God can change people’s orientation. A murderer can change. A rapist can change. A thief can change. That’s what the Gospel is about. It’s not a hate crime.” – Pat Robertson

Seriously?…

Pat – you gotta go there?
