My America: Pittsburgh Muslim Community Raises Over $70K For Synagogue Shooting Victims

This is my America.

In the aftermath of the deadliest attack on Jewish people in the United States, the leader of the Islamic Center of Pittsburgh announces the local Muslim community has raised more than $70,000 for the synagogue attack victims and their families.

“We just want to know what you need … If it’s people outside your next service protecting you, let us know. We’ll be there.”

Gus Kenworthy Riffs On Adam Rippon’s Oscars Ensemble For Halloween

Out Olympians Adam Rippon and Gus Kenworthy have been entertaining their fans with their awesome bromance since the beginning of the 2018 Winter Olympics.

Since then, the dynamic duo have exchanged lots of clever and sly repartee in interviews and photo shoots, all to our delight.

This past weekend, though, Kenworthy took things to a new level as he debuted his Halloween costume which he labeled, “Adam Rippoff,” riffing on Rippon’s now-famous Academy Awards outfit complete with leather harness.

In concocting the photo, you may notice Kenworthy also replaced the Oscar statue in the background for something a bit more comical.

Rippon, never at a loss for a quick retort, replied in his own inimitable manner tweeting, “We finally did each other [eggplant]”

Kenworthy continued the exchange with his own “admission” that he’s “wanted to do” Rippon since they met:

‘Kingsman’ Star Taron Egerton Might Have Just Come Out In Most Chill Way Ever

Did Taron Egerton, the star of the Kingsman movie franchise as well as the upcoming Elton John biopic Rocketman, just come out?

That’s what fans are wondering after he posted a photo on his newly-launched Instagram account.

The post shows an unnamed young man with the simple caption, “Cutie. My boy (heart).”

Now, this could be a ‘bromance’ moment. Or, Egerton might be coming out in the most chill way possible.

Even though the Instagram account is only days old (there’s a total of just five posts), Egerton already has over 100,000 followers on the social media platform.

And for the most part, those fans were supportive of the news.

“He is adorable. But is someone coming out or just bromancing”

 “I really hope this is your coming out happy for you”

 “Omg my if Taron is gay, my dream finally came true lol”

 “the gays have won”

One commenter wrote, “does that mean he’s got a boyfriend now,” and Egerton ‘liked’ the comment.

Whether or not Taron did just come out (good on him if he did) or just shared a ‘bro moment,’ I think it’s terrific that he can be comfortable in his own skin.

WH Press Secretary Delivers Podium Rant Then Storms Out Of Press Briefing

After fielding questions regarding whether Donald Trump is responsible to some degree for inspiring disturbed people to send pipe bombs or shoot up a Pittsburgh synagogue, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders went on a lengthy tirade from the podium today.

Sanders told reporters “it would be nice if every once in a while we could focus on a few of the positive things the President has done instead of just attacking him.”

Sanders also erroneously declared that Trump had won the election “with an overwhelming majority of 63 million people.” As has been pointed out many times, Hillary Clinton beat Trump in the popular vote by millions.

She ended the rant by abruptly closing her notes and leaving the room. Watch below.

Sanders defended Trump saying at one point that “the president is not placing blame,” and yet this morning he tweeted a new attack on the press:

Trump Tweets Dog Whistle Calling Black Florida Gubernatorial Candidate ‘A Thief’

In an obvious racist dog whistle, Donald Trump attacked the Democratic candidate for governor in Florida, Mayor Andrew Gillum of Tallahassee, today.

Trump compared Gillum to the Republican candidate, Rep. Ron DeSantis, bringing up DeSantis’ college pedigree while calling Gillum a ‘thief.’

Not only is it racist to call Gillum a “thief” for no apparent reason, but Trump is insinuating that Gillum’s education is somehow subpar.

Gillum went to Florida A&M, a top ranked HBCU.

The mayor wasted no time in clapping back at the Trumpster calling him a coward and ‘weak:’ “On Twitter there is a choice between having the courage to @ the person you are trash talking, or not. @realDonaldTrump is howling because he’s weak. Florida, go vote today.”

The governor’s race in Florida is one of the most highly-watched elections this election cycle.

Gillum is the first black nominee from any major party for governor of Florida.

According to RealClearPolitics, Gillum currently leads DeSantis in polls by an average of 3.2 points.

Gay Men Attacked At Knife-Point In Key West Hate Crime

Two gay men from West Hollywood, California, were vacationing in Key West, Florida, when they became the victims of a hate crime.

According to the Sun-Sentinel, the two men had rented a large boat and dinghy in order to spend the day on Wisteria Island, a small federally-owned uninhabited island located several hundred yards off of Key West.

After spending the day on the island, the two men were preparing to leave when a couple, identified as Christopher Thomas John Yarema and Stephanie Lynn Burnham, approached shouting obscenities.

According to the police report, one gay men was wearing a Speedo-style swimsuit and it upset the couple.

One of the attackers yelled, “Hey, Mr. Speedo [expletive], get the [expletive] off our island.”

That was followed by Burnham shouting, “You have five seconds to get off, or I will kill you.”

Yarema then reportedly punched one of the men and broke his sunglasses. Burnham then slammed the same man with an oar.

When the man pushed her away in an attempt to defend himself, Yarema pulled out a knife and began slashing at the men yelling, “You knocked down my wife, I’m going to kill you!”

At one point, Yarema punctured the men’s dingy, but they were able to escape to their larger rental boat before it had completely deflated.

Once back onboard, the men were able to radio the U.S. Coast Guard for help.

The Sun-Sentinel reports that Yarema, a fisherman and roofer, has been charged with aggravated assault and causing property damage.

And Burnham, described as a Key West laborer, is charged with battery and causing property damage.

The boat rental company told the police the damage to the dinghy is estimated at between $2000 and $5000. The sunglasses that were broken in the scuffle were apparently worth about $800.

Transgender Activists Surprise With Pro-Trans Banner At World Series

During last night’s final game of the World Series, transgender activists somehow snuck a huge banner that read “Trans people deserve to live” into Dodger Stadium and unfurled the massive message during the game.

According to CBS News, the moment was planned by members of the TransLatin@ Coalition, a Los Angeles-based activist organization that advocates for the rights of transgender Latinx people.

It won’t surprise you to learn that Fox Sports didn’t show the sign or its removal on the air.

By the way, the Boston Red Sox clinched the Series by winning the game 5-1. This marks the 4th Series title in 14 years for the Red Sox.

A Facebook video of two activists unfurling the banner was uploaded by The TransLatina Coalition. According to The Los Angeles Blade, the two activists in the video were identified as Bamby Salcedo and Maria Roman.

“Our message tonight was to let the world know that we as Trans people deserved to be humanized, acknowledged and valued,” said Salcedo, according to the Blade.

Report: Synagogue Shooting Occurred During Ceremony For Gay Couple’s Children

The mass shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue yesterday that left 11 dead and six more injured happened during a ceremony for the children of a gay couple.

According to local LGBTQ group, The Delta Foundation of Pittsburgh, the deadly attack occurred during a bris, the Jewish rite of male circumcision, for the couple’s adopted twins.

We were just informed that this morning’s tragedy was happening during a Briss for a set of twins adopted by a gay couple.

Our hearts and prayers go out to all that were involved including the members of the Synagogue, law-enforcement and first responders.

We have witnessed the worst of America this morning in our town Pittsburgh. More than ever we must come together as people and change the temperament of our country.

After surrendering to police, assailant Robert D. Bowers said he “wanted all Jews to die,” according to a Pittsburgh police report.

Bowers was charged with 29 criminal accounts by federal officials.

Chad Griffin, president of the Human Rights Campaign, issued a statement which read, in part, “Our hearts are with the community of the Tree of Life Synagogue, the first responders who bravely rushed into danger to save lives, the people of Pittsburgh, and all those impacted by this tragic act of hate violence.”

Donald Trump, true to form, told reporters that gun laws had “little” to do with the shooting.

“If they had protection inside, maybe it could have been a different situation,” Trump said.

Mind you, four police officers – who are well-trained in using firearms – were injured during the shooting.

After the massacre, the Trumpster called for bringing “back the death penalty” through legislation even though the death penalty is legal in Pennsylvania.

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to raise funds for the victims of the shooting and their families. At this writing, the campaign has raised almost $400,000.

Trump Twitter Rants About Baseball Hours After Mass Shooting Leaves 11 Dead

On a day that saw a mass shooting where 11 people were killed at a Pittsburgh synagogue, Donald Trump surprised some on Twitter when he took time to tweet a comment on World Series Game 4.

The tweet criticized the LA Dodgers manager for pulling pitcher Rich Hill from the game which saw the Boston Red Sox go on to win 9-6, taking a 3-1 lead in the series.

Earlier in the day, Trump condemned the shooting as an “assault on humanity” and an “evil anti-Semitic attack.” He also suggested that if the worshippers in the synagogue had had guns, things might have turned out differently.

He also attended a campaign rally just hours after the shooting. He defended his campaign appearance by erroneously telling the crowd that the New York Stock Exchange was open the day after 9/11.

In the past, presidents have usually adopted a more somber public face for at least a few days after a national tragedy. Like this from former President Barack Obama.
