Axios: “We Now Know…”

In light of this week’s sentencing recommendations from Special Counsel Robert Mueller, plus new details from former FBI Director James Comey at congressional hearings, Axios comes up with this list of “what we know” regarding the ongoing investigation:

We now know several Russian officials reached out to a half dozen Republicans very close to Trump and his campaign, including his eldest son, his closest adviser, his lawyer, and his campaign manager. We now know they took the meetings, often enthusiastically, during and after the campaign.

We now know Russia offered in those chats campaign assistance — “synergy,” they called it. We know now of no one around Trump who alerted the FBI of this effort to subvert our elections.

We now know that 12 Russian intelligence officers were indicted for hacking the DNC and systematically releasing material for the purpose of hurting the Clinton campaign via WikiLeaks.

We know that Trump associates Roger Stone and Jerome Corsi attempted — successfully, in some instances — to get in touch with WikiLeaks and that they are under investigation for whether they had advance knowledge about the email dumps.

We now know Donald Trump, Jr and others took a meeting with Russians promising dirt on Hillary Clinton. We now know Don, Jr., when approached with the promise of dirt, wrote: “If it’s what you say I love it especially later in the summer.”

We now know Trump was negotiating a Trump property in Moscow during the presidential campaign — and hid this from the public and lied about it. We now know Mueller believes, based on his court filing, the “Moscow Project was a lucrative business opportunity that sought, and likely required, the assistance of the Russian government.”

We now know every arm of the US intelligence community concluded Russia sought to systematically influence the election outcome. We now know this was an unanimous conclusion, save one dissent: Trump.

We now know Trump officials continued talking with the Russians during the post-election transition. We now know Jared Kushner and Jeff Sessions failed to initially disclose any contacts with Russians on their government forms.

We now know Jared Kushner suggested a secret backchannel with the Russians, which had it happened, would have been free of US eavesdropping.

We now know Trump soured on FBI director James Comey, Attorney General Jeff Sessions, and White House counsel Don McGahn in part over their handling of the probe.

We now know Paul Manafort, who ran the Trump campaign in the summer of 2016, lied about his Russia contacts, was indicted, and is going to jail.

We now know Flynn lied about his Russian contacts, was fired and pleaded guilty, after agreeing to become a key witness in the investigation.

We now know Cohen lied about his Russian contacts, was indicted, and then flipped to become a key witness against Trump.

Trans Woman Wins Lawsuit Against NY Jail After Being Denied Prescribed Hormone Treatment

A transgender woman has successfully sued a county jail in New York state for denying her medically-prescribed hormone treatments for 16 months while incarcerated.

From Gay Star News:

In 2013, Jessica Sunderland sued the Suffolk County in New York state. She served a 16 month sentence at the Riverside Correctional Facility.

Sunderland said the jail refused to give her her prescribed hormone therapy even though she had started transitioning two year prior.

‘I had been transitioning for two years prior, and to have everything reverse itself… it was horrible,’ she told The Appeal.

In October, Sunderland won her case against the jail and its medical director, Vincent Geraci. A jury found the jail and Geraci had violated her constitutional rights. The court awarded her $280,000 in damages and $75,000 in punitive damages against Geraci.

According to the The Appeal, the jail kept giving Sunderland excuses about why it was not giving her hormones.

‘It was very uncomfortable to deal with the physical changes,’ she said. After multiple stalling tactics, the jail confirmed that Geraci decided she shouldn’t have hormone treatment.

‘I was told I wasn’t going to get it—at all,’ Sunderland said.

Geraci originally refused to prescribe Sunderland hormones because he claimed it would damage her liver. But also wrote in her medical records it was his ‘preference’.

According to The New York Times, the doctor had shared several anti-trans posts on social media.

Porn star Stormy Daniels was back in the national news this week as sentencing memos for Donald Trump’s former ‘fixer,’ Michael Cohen, were issued.

Additionally, though, Stormy was getting ink on Twitter last night when she canceled an appearance in Fort Lauderdale after a strip club owner allegedly called her assistant a “fucking faggot.”

According to Stormy, the cancellation cost her $6,800 but it was the right thing to do.

Trump To Reporters: Chief Of Staff John Kelly Is Out

I guess it’s official – White House Chief of Staff John Kelly is out (very soon).

From The Washington Post:

At the South Lawn on Saturday, President Trump said he’ll announce Kelly’s replacement in the next day or so. Kelly, a retired four-star Marine Corps general, has been the president’s top aide since late July 2017 and has had a rocky tenure.

Trump has chafed at Kelly’s management style and resisted some of his moves to instill discipline in the West Wing and contain chaos. In recent months, the chief of staff’s power has ebbed, and administration policies and decisions have been guided more by the president’s gut instincts than by Kelly’s processes.

Trump is widely expected to poach Vice President Mike Pence’s Chief of Staff, Nick Ayres, to replace.

Log Cabin Republicans: Trump’s LGBTQ Attacks Are Just “Hiccups”

Newly-installed executive director of the Log Cabin Republicans, Jerri Ann Henry, characterized Trump’s almost constant attacks on the LGBTQ community since taking office as “hiccups.”

Via Hill TV’s The Rising:

“I think there’s a lot of ups and downs in the last two years with some of the administration’s actions.

“He has been more vocally supportive than any Republican candidate or president, but there have been a few things that I haven’t loved that the administration has done, and some things that I think we can do some work on. I want to make sure that we have the opportunity to improve on those things, not just fight over them.”

She added, “Some of the issues where we can make major improvements are just the nuances.

“You know, marriage has only been legal for a short time, and we’ve seen a few hiccups here and there how that’s been rolled out with the military, with the State Department, visas, and how they handle married LGBT partners and non-married LGBT partners for diplomats. That’s something we need a lot of work on.”

I see – it’s just a matter of ‘hiccups’ and ‘nuances…’

Charlottesville Neo-Nazi Found Guilty Of Murder

The Neo-nazi who drove his car into a crowd of people a the Charlottesville rally in 2017 has been found guilty of first-degree murder.

From ABC News:

Suspect James Alex Fields was on trial for the death and injuries he is accused of causing when he drove his car into a crowd of counter-protesters, killing Heather Heyer.

He was found guilty on all of the charges he was facing, ABC affiliate WSET reports, which included first-degree murder as well as eight other charges relating to injuries and one relating to fleeing the scene of an accident.

Fields’ sentencing will come at a later date, and he faces life in prison.

Fields’ defense lawyers tried to claim ‘self-defense’ saying he became afraid after the rally, led by white nationalists and neo-nazis turned violent.

Entered into evidence during the trial were text messages Fields sent to his mother leading up to and during the rally. “We’re not the one [sic] who need to be careful,” he texted his mother the day before the event, along with a picture of Adolf Hitler.

The jury also heard a jailhouse conversation between Fields and his mom. When his mother mentioned that Heyer’s mother had lost a daughter due to his actions, he responded, “It doesn’t f*cking matter.”

The 21-year-old still faces 30 federal charges, separate from this trial, relating to hate crimes.

Whoa – the Trumpster went on a rampage after hearing that his former Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, criticized him for being “undisciplined” and happy to violate the law.

Trump, who famously told the world he only hires the “best,” criticized Tillerson for being “lazy” and not having the mental capacity for being Sec of State.

Congresswoman-Elect Claps Back At Trump Junior

After one of the biggest upsets in the political world, Democratic Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.) is not shy about clapping back at any detractors.

For some reason, Donald Trump Jr. thinks he can take shots at the soon-to-be Congresswoman.

She took a moment to point out to the Junior Trumpster the illogic of such moves.

RuPaul For Oscar Host!

Kevin Hart stepped down from hosting the 2019 Academy Awards this morning after homophobic language from the past came to light.

“I have made the choice to step down from hosting this year’s Oscar’s….this is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing talented artists,” he wrote on Twitter. “I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past.”

“I’m sorry that I hurt people. I am evolving and want to continue to do so,” Kevin continued. “My goal is to bring people together not tear us apart. Much love & appreciation to the Academy. I hope we can meet again.”

The Academy is now looking for a new host for the February 24th event on ABC.
