Canadian superstar Connor McDavid netted a decisive goal in overtime, securing a 3-2 win for his nation against the U.S. during the 4 Nations Face-Off hockey tournament in Boston last night. The heightened tensions between the two nations turned what was meant to be a preparatory match for next year’s Olympics into a political clash over national anthems and territorial claims.

The existing rivalry grew even fiercer in the wake of Donald Trump’s threats regarding tariffs and discussions about potentially designating Canada as the “51st state of the United States.” You can see the incredible emotion in the video above. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau celebrated the win on X: “You can’t take our country — and you can’t take our game,.”
