Canada: Liberals Lead Conservatives By 8 Points One Week Before Election

One week from Canada’s parliamentary election, the Liberal Party has an eight-point advantage over the Conservative Party. Recent polling shows the Liberals at 44% over the Conservatives, who are at 36% nationally. NDTV reports Liberal Leader and current Prime Minister Mark Carney has a 14-point advantage (47%) over Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre (33%). Prior to Donald Trump’s “51st state” rhetoric, Poilievre was considered a lock to become prime minister. If this is how the numbers stand on election day, the Liberal Party of Canada will get a clear majority in the 343-member Canadian Parliament. Elections Canada, the official election body of the country, reports it has already recorded more than 2 million votes so far following the first day of advance voting on Friday. Canada has a total of 28 million registered voters.
