Brendan Fraser in ‘The Whale’ (Image via A24) Brendan Fraser is already attracting Oscar buzz for his latest film, The Whale, directed by Darren Aronofsky. The film, adapted from the acclaimed Samuel D. Hunter play of the same name, chronicles the life of a 600-pound gay man attempting to reconnect with his estranged daughter as he struggles with compulsive eating triggered by grief. After leaving his family to be in a relationship with his now-deceased gay partner, Charlie (played by Fraser) hopes to salvage his relationship with his daughter (played by Sadie Sink from Stranger Things). There are only two lines of dialogue in the newly-released trailer, both by Fraser. “Do you ever get the feeling people are incapable of not caring? People are amazing.” https://youtu.be/D30r0CwtIKc Fraser’s appearance in the film is the culmination of 3D-printed prosthetics, latex, and digitally created effects. In August, Fraser told Vanity Fair that part of his preparation for the role involved working with Obesity Action Coalition. As I shared in early September, the film debuted at the Venice Film Festival where the audience reportedly gave Fraser a six-minute standing ovation. “It felt so affirming,” Fraser told Variety regarding the enthusiasm surrounding his appearances through the fall festivals. “I was emotional because it was acknowledgment that what we did is making an impact. And that kind of response feels completely new in my professional life.” The Whale arrives in movie theaters this December. https://twitter.com/jazzt/status/1590730774193778689
