Some news items you might have missed: • Vulture: Billy Porter has penned a love duet for himself and co-star Luke Evans for their upcoming film, Our Son, in hopes of singing at the Oscars (and maybe completing his EGOT status). https://twitter.com/vulture/status/1723894813081112921 • The Advocate: Another anti-LGBTQ connection for House Speaker Mike Johnson has come to light: He serves on the board of a Christian publishing house that called mpox, formerly known as monkeypox, an “an inevitable and appropriate penalty” for being gay. • Politico: The attorney general of my home state, Nevada, is quietly investigating Republican activists who falsely pledged the state’s six electoral votes to Donald Trump in 2020, despite Joe Biden’s victory in the state. https://twitter.com/politico/status/1724852619414303035 • NBC News: Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) says he would “absolutely” consider a run for president, adding he will figure out if there’s an appetite for a “moderate” candidate by around Super Tuesday (March 5). • Statista: In 14 U.S. states, laws banning or limiting gender-affirming health care for those under the age of 18 are currently in effect. Bans in 3 more states – Idaho, Louisiana, and West Virginia – are expected to go into effect on January 1. They remain temporarily blocked in Florida, Montana, Alabama and Indiana.
