Donald Trump is reportedly considering former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley for his running mate after a bruising primary season. Even though she dropped out of the race for the GOP presidential nomination two months ago, she still garnered more than 20% of the vote in Indiana’s primary this week. UPDATE: Donald Trump denied rumors he is considering Haley to be his running mate this afternooon. https://twitter.com/axios/status/1789266329305805243 From Axios:
The bitter primary rivals’ relationship remains chilly. But Trump, 77, could pick Haley, 52, if he were convinced she’d help him raise money and win the presidency — which could keep him out of prison.
Republicans close to both politicians believe it’s in Haley and Trump’s mutual interests to reconcile, despite their furious fight in the GOP primaries and their differences on some big issues.
A reconciliation with Haley — his former UN ambassador, and former South Carolina governor — could help Trump attract college-educated Republicans who have kept voting for her in primaries even after she dropped out.
Trump is scrambling to make up a fundraising disadvantage against President Biden and pay legal fees. Axios reports that the Biden campaign has nearly twice as much money on hand than the Trump campaign.
