From GLAAD – Commentator Accountability Project

The GLAAD Commentator Accountability Project (CAP) aims to put critical information about frequent anti-gay interviewees into the hands of newsrooms, editors, hosts and reporters.

Journalists or producers who are on deadline often don’t have the time to dig into the histories of a commentator. Audiences need to be aware that when they’re not talking to the mainstream media, these voices are comparing the LGBT people to Nazi Germany, predicting that equal treatment of LGBT people will lead to the total collapse of society, and even making accusations of satanic influence.

The Commentator Accountability Project is bringing all of these statements to light, while calling attention to the sentiments behind them. We will show that the commentators who are most often asked to opine on issues like marriage equality or non-discrimination protections do not accurately represent the “other side” of those issues. They represent nothing but extreme animus towards the entire LGBT community.

Have you seen these anti-LGBT voices in your local media? Let GLAAD know today.

Clint Eastwood and family to star in reality TV show

From TVGuide.com: On May 20, E! will debut Mrs. Eastwood & Company, described as an unprecedented look at the family behind one of Hollywood’s most iconic superstars.

The series will focus on Eastwood’s wife Dina and her relationship with their daughter Morgan, 15, and his 18-year-old daughter Francesca, along with the all-male six member vocal group from South Africa that is managed by Dina.

“Nothing is more important to me than family — no matter how you define that,” Dina Eastwood said in a statement. “People might be surprised by how we live our lives and our unconventional approach, and I also believe that it’s hard not to fall in love with my band, ‘Overtone.'”

Adds Clint: “I’m really proud of my family. They are a constant source of inspiration and entertainment.”

Susan Lucci is a hot property in Hollywood these days

Susan Lucci, who has already landed a prime role in Marc Cherry’s soapy pilot “Devious Maids,” has just booked a recurring guest-starring spot on “Army Wives,” reuniting her with former “AMC” costar Kim Delaney.

Lifetime announced that Lucci will make several special appearances in a recurring role as Audrey, the wife of a retired Brigadier General. Her first episode, “Learning Curve,” airs Sunday, March 18 at 9 p.m. on Lifetime.

“Army Wives” follows the adventures of a group of women living on an active army post and is currently in its sixth season. Lucci recently guest-starred on TV Land’s “Hot in Cleveland.

“John Carter” with Taylor Kitsch flops at box office

Apparently the film – which cost $300 million to make – only grossed $30 million it’s first week in the US. Hopes are now laid on the international market to recoup.

Internationally, the film did make $70 million so far. But since movie ticket sales are split, the film needs to sell $600 million in tickets to break even.

I will say there are worse things than looking at Taylor Kitsch for a couple of hours…

Omaha passes LGBT employment protections

From The Republic.com: The Omaha City Council has just approved a city law by a vote of 4-3 protecting LGBT people from employment discrimination.

The proposal, put forward by Councilman Ben Gray, would apply to employers, employment agencies, job training programs, labor groups, public accommodations and businesses that contract with the city. It also would provide exemptions for religious organizations.

A similar proposal failed to pass in October 2010 on a 3-3 vote. Nebraska’s anti-discrimination laws and federal regulations don’t extend protection to gay and transgender people.

The Human Right Campaign reacts via press release.

“Omaha is a world class city that now joins the ranks of other major American cities standing strong for fairness,” said HRC President Joe Solmonese. “The city council should be proud for affirming the principle that what matters is how you do your job, not who you are.” HRC is proud to have partnered with Equal Omaha in advocating for the ordinance. The organization activated its local members and supporters as well as provided local leaders with strategic advice and financial support. HRC also provided data from its workplace project that shows 86 percent of Fortune 500 companies have their own policies against sexual orientation non-discrimination and nearly half cover gender identity.”
