7 Years In Prison For Shooting Gay Neighbor + More News

Some news items for you as we head into the week:

LGBTQ Nation: Tyler Getchell (above), a 30-year-old Florida man who shot and paralyzed his 24-year-old LGBTQ neighbor after months of harassment pleaded guilty to attempted manslaughter and will now face seven years in prison.

Them: Hunter Biden, son of former President Joe Biden, says everyone in D.C. knows there’s a “closeted gay mafia” of Republicans in Congress.

Roll Call: The Trump administration will not renew direct federal funding of community-based organizations that work on HIV prevention. The move is the latest step in the administration’s push to eliminate funding for DEI-focused initiatives that help the LGBTQ community.

Politico: Ontario Premier Doug Ford shot back at Donald Trump’s threat to impose additional tariffs on Canada over wildfire smoke, calling it “rubbish.” Ford noted that Canadians have helped Americans battle wildfires in places such as California and Minnesota in recent years, and suggested that Trump should return the favor by sending water bombers up to Canada.

Yahoo News: Several high-profile Democrats have suspended their campaigns to replace U.S. Senate hopeful Graham Platner, clearing the path for former Maine Senate President Troy Jackson to become the Democratic nominee to take on Sen. Susan Collins this fall.

ABC News: ABC News’ Jonathan Karl serves up a terrific breakdown of the documents declassified by Trump during his primetime “election” speech last week that actually contradict the Donald’s arguments about “election fraud.”
