Donald Trump seemed to take credit for California GOP gubernatorial nominee Steve Hilton advancing to the general election because of the Donald’s pronouncements of voter fraud claims in the state.

Via The Hill:
“After a week, they determined that a kid who’s leading and had all the mojo, all of the sudden he doesn’t make the runoff, and then I hit them hard on that,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office, referring to former Los Angeles mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt who lost his bid.
“I started talking about Steve Hilton who’s a fantastic guy and I saw them say it was going to be two weeks before they knew, and I started hitting them,” he continued, recounting that he said “it’s going to happen to Steve Hilton.”
“And they approved Steve Hilton very quickly,” he said. “There was too much heat on them.”
Hilton, who has been backed by Trump, advanced to the general election earlier this week after he placed second in the state’s primary before former Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra (D).
Two quick fact-checks:
• The “kid” Trump seems to be referring to is 42-year-old former reality TV personality Spencer Pratt who lost his bid for mayor of Los Angeles. At no point during the ballot counting was Pratt ever in “the lead.”
• Republican gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton has been in second place since ballot counting first began and he remains in second place.
