Donald Trump keeps telling anyone who’ll listen the U.S. economy is booming, but Americans are not feeling it as the Conference Board’s consumer confidence index drops to lowest level since 2014.
Via Axios:
Americans’ economic confidence plunged to its lowest level in 12 years amid consumer angst over prices and pessimism about the job market, Axios Macro co-author Neil Irwin writes.
The Conference Board’s long-running consumer confidence index fell 9.7 points in January, to 84.5, from a revised 94.2 in December.
Stunning stat: The index is now below its level at the depths of the pandemic, when unemployment peaked at nearly 15%. Unemployment in December was only 4.4%.
So. Much. Winning.
