• The Advocate: Seattle PrideFest has encouraged folks attending the June 26 World Cup match to bring rainbow flags to celebrate Pride Month. But leaders in each nation’s football federations publicly rebuked the idea, saying such events clashed with their cultural and religious values.
The nations involved in the first-ever World Cup Pride Match — Egypt and Iran — are asking FIFA to cancel it, calling it “culturally and religiously contrary” to their values. Both countries have criminalized same-sex sexual relations.

• Axios: Elon Musk admitted in a recent interview that DOGE, the Trump administration’s cost-cutting effort he spearheaded, was only “somewhat successful.”

• New York Times: As many expected, the Federal Reserve lowered interest rates by a quarter of a percentage point on Wednesday. This is the third rate reduction this year.
• Washington Post: The House overwhelmingly approved a must-pass defense policy bill that includes a provision to force the release of video showing the ‘double-tap’ military strike that killed two men on an alleged drug smuggling vessel.
The legislation would withhold 25% of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s travel budget until he discloses all of his orders regarding the attacks.
