Team USA is making quite the statement at the World Cup in Qatar by changing up  their crest with rainbow stripes to show support for the LGBTQ community.

Megan Rapinoe Named Sports Illustrated Sportsperson Of The Year

Out lesbian U.S. soccer star Megan Rapinoe has been named Sports Illustrated‘s Sportsperson of the Year.

Among the athlete’s many accomplishments in 2019 was leading the American team to victory at the 2019 FIFA World Cup in France.

Rapinoe becomes only the 4th solo woman in 66 years to be named Sportsperson of the Year.

In its profile of Rapinoe, Sports Illustrated calls a photo of the 34-year-old posing after scoring the winning goal in the World Cup the “signature sporting image of 2019.”

Rapinoe said her winning pose was a direct response to the president.

“It was kind of like a ‘F— you,’ but with a big smile and a s— eating grin,” Rapinoe says. “You are not going to steal any of our joy.”

The magazine also highlighted her refusal to visit Trump’s White House after she brought the U.S. to victory and how she bravely faced down temper tantrums from Donald Trump, who tweeted his disapproval of the athlete.

“I’m going to do me,” she told the magazine.

US Women’s National Soccer Team Wins World Cup Over Netherlands 2-0

The US Women’s National Soccer team has won the World Cup beating the Netherlands 2-0.

Competing in its first World Cup final, few gave the Dutch hope. The reigning European champion it may be, but it had not yet come up against the best team in the world, the dominant force of its generation.

The Netherlands held on for over an hour but two goals within eight minutes sealed the underdog’s fate. In a tournament where she has transcended her sport, Megan Rapinoe coolly drilled home a penalty before a Rose Lavelle thunderbolt made sure of a second successive title for the US.

This win makes for back-to-back titles and the fourth championship in total for the US women’s team.

For the second time, France won the World Cup in true championship style on Sunday ending Croatia’s dreams of a first major title with a 4-2 victory.

Donald Trump, true to form, licked Russian Vladimir Putin’s backside as he congratulated France on the victory.

Trump is crushing so hard on Putin. You can bet he’s gonna put out at the one-on-one summit with his boss, Vladimir.

While the USA may have lost today (in what Americans would call ‘overtime’), Team USA did everyone proud.

All three goals scored in the game came very late, during the extra time period.

And then there was the man of the day, goal keeper Tim Howard, who was trending on Twitter as he made history with 16 saves – the most by a goal keeper in World Cup history.

Tweets like “Tim Howard drafted by the Justice League of America” and “Tim Howard for President” were common all over Twitter.

According to sources, there were 1.8 million tweets about Tim Howard during the game.

New Music: “Vida” by Ricky Martin for 2014 World Cup Album

Ricky Martin releases official video for “Vida”

Yesterday, Ricky Martin released the official video for “Vida,” which will be included in the Official FIFA World Cup album, “One Love, One Rhythm.”

The song was written by the winner of SuperSong global competition, Elijah King, who worked closely with Martin to record the final version of the track.

The song’s lyrics pay tribute to the international soccer tournament’s ability to bring people from “every nation” together to celebrate and enjoy “la vida buena” (the good life). The video was filmed in Rio de Janeiro and was directed by Kátia Lund and Lívia Gama of Bossa Nova Films.

“I had a lot of fun flying to and shooting in Brazil,” Martin said. “It an incredible feeling to be able to have the opportunity to participated in a global initiative like SuperSong. I very excited to finally be able to sing “Vida” and share this special song with the world.”

Looking quite relaxed in shorts and a tank, Ricky sings along the beaches of the Brazilian city with approximately 100 extras — kids, dancers, models, samba dancers and more that were carefully chosen to represent the diversity of the Brazilian people.
