Some news items I thought worth your time as we head into the weekend:
• Kenneth-in-the-212: Check out this week’s round-up of the latest in LGBTQ publications including Hallmark Channel’s “gay king of Christmas” Jonathan Bennett (above) covering Metrosource Magazine.
• The Advocate: In a big legal victory, a Georgia law restricting access to gender-affirming care for transgender inmates has been struck down by a judge who ruled that it violated the Eighth Amendment’s prohibition on cruel and unusual punishment.
• Washington Blade: Members of Congress warn of an impending HIV crisis as federal support under the Trump administration collapses.
• Axios: U.S. national parks offer free entry on several national holidays. But now, MLK Day and Juneteenth – two holidays with deep ties to Black history – will not be on the list. Donald Trump’s birthday, however, has been added to the list for free entry. #srsly
• The Daily Beast: Donald Trump is super-mad over recent press coverage of his deteriorating health. Insiders say the Donald spends days obsessing over reports comparing him to “Sleepy Joe.”
• MS NOW: FBI Director Kash Patel has — on more than one occasion — ordered the security detail protecting his girlfriend to escort one of her allegedly drunk friends home after a night of partying in Nashville. In one instance, Patel called the leader of the security detail and yelled at him to do so.
• Fortune: In the months before New York City’s mayoral election, there was speculation that the city’s wealthy elite would leave if Zohran Mamdani won. Just the opposite has happened as the number of contracts for Manhattan homes costing $4 million or more rose to 176 in November, a 25% increase from October’s 141 deals.
