The first trailer has been released for the highly-anticipated film adaptation of the Broadway hit musical, Kiss of the Spider Woman, starring Jennifer Lopez in the title role.
Director Bill Condon (Dreamgirls, Beauty and the Beast) helms the dazzling Technicolor-hued musical fantasy starring Jennifer Lopez (Hustlers, Out of Sight), Diego Luna (Andor, Y tu mamá también), and Tonatiuh (Carry On, Promised Land).
Official synopsis:
Valentín (Diego Luna), a political prisoner, shares a cell with Molina (Tonatiuh), a window dresser convicted of public indecency. The two form an unlikely bond as Molina recounts the plot of a Hollywood musical starring his favorite silver screen diva, Ingrid Luna (Jennifer Lopez).

The critics have heaped praise on Tonatiuh’s performance as “Molina,” the out gay window dresser who finds escape in his love of Hollywood musicals.
Ryan Lattanzio for Indiewire: “Tonatiuh gives an earnestly star-making performance as the flamboyant and reverie-prone Luis.”
Aisha Harris of NPR: “Luna and Lopez are great, but this is Tonatiuh’s movie — he takes a role that could easily be a caricature of queer flamboyance and pathos, and grounds it with depth and soul.”

The Broadway production (book by Terrence McNally, score by John Kander & Fred Ebb, direction by Harold Prince) was a triumph winning the 1993 Tony Award for Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Original Score, as well as acting Tonys for all three principals in the cast – Chita Rivera, Brent Carver, and Anthony Crivello.
It’s also worth noting Vanessa Williams made a huge splash in her Broadway debut replacing Rivera.
The film is set for release on 10 October.
