Some news items I thought worth your time: • Hulu: Out funny gay Matteo Lane will premiere his new comedy special “The Al Dente Special” on the streaming platform on May 16. The Advocate: West Virginia has enacted a new law fully banning gender-affirming care for transgender youth. It removes an exception in the previous ban, passed in 2023, that allowed young people considered at risk for suicide or other self-harm to receive the care. • Variety: “Fire Island” actor Zane Phillips and Jelani Alladin of “Fellow Travelers” are set to star in the 1980s-set queer erotic thriller “Strangers On a Beach.” CNN: The National Weather Service is headed into hurricane season with 30 of its 122 weather forecast offices lacking their most experienced official, known as the meteorologist-in-charge. • Gr8erdays: Laugh-In comedy queen Ruth Buzzi has died at 88. Buzzi won a Golden Globe and was a two-time Emmy nominee for the NBC show “Laugh-In” that ran from 1968 to 1973. She was the only regular to appear in all six seasons, including the pilot. https://www.instagram.com/p/DJJ1tv6RwXa/ • AP News: Plans are being made for a potential military parade on Donald Trump’s birthday in June calling for more than 6,600 soldiers, at least 150 vehicles, 50 helicopters, seven bands and possibly a couple thousand civilians • CBS News: Former national security adviser Mike Waltz, who was ousted this week over his part in SignalGate, was reportedly offered a list of jobs to move to including several ambassadorships. He chose to be Trump’s nominee for ambassador to the United Nations.
