Pony, a popular bar for the LGBTQ community in Seattle, is fighting back after becoming the target of anti-gay slurs and harassment on Tuesday night. Witnesses say a group of men drove around the business several times, shouting anti-queer slurs and shooting patrons with a water gun. From the Seattle NBC News affiliate:
“It’s just not okay. You know, it terrorizes people,” said Ade Connere, a bartender at Pony. Connere was working when the crime occurred.
“They were basically driving around just sort of harassing people that were outside, just screaming expletives at them and just antagonizing people,” Connere said.
Witnesses snapped a photo of a car with people inside who were yelling anti-gay slurs.
“I think a lot of people were really upset. And. And a bit traumatized by it,” Connere said.
A news release from the Seattle police stated: “The passengers of the car approached the bar on foot before returning to their vehicle to circle the block again. One of the witnesses estimated the car returned about 10 times over the course of about an hour.” “Two of the male passengers came up on foot and went back to their car and continued circling and seen shooting a toy gun with water beads that struck some of the patrons that were outside the bar.” Anyone with information about this incident, including photos and video, is asked to call the SPD Tip Line at (206) 233-5000 or email SPD_hatecrimes@seattle.gov.
