Some news items you might have missed: • The Advocate: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is scrubbing content related to HIV after Donald Trump issued executive orders targeting the transgender community. • New York Times: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has banned observances of Pride Month, Black History Month, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Holocaust Days of Remembrance and other cultural annual events at the Pentagon. He said that such observances “erode camaraderie and threaten mission execution.”

ABC News: Federal employees were ordered to remove pronouns from their email signatures by Friday afternoon thanks to Trump’s anti-diversity executive orders. • NBC News: Karla Sofía Gascón, the first openly trans actor to be nominated for an Oscar (Emilia Pérez), received mucho backlash for social media posts denigrating Muslims, George Floyd and diversity at the Oscars.

AOL: Panama’s president says there will be no negotiation with the United States over ownership of the Panama Canal. Period. • CBS News: Trump has ordered 25% tariffs on Mexico, 25% tariffs on Canada and a 10% tariff on China beginning February 1. Economists have warned that stiff tariffs could raise U.S. inflation and slow economic growth.
