Leaders In Areas Hit Hard By Helene Beg – Stop The FEMA Lies

Republican leaders in areas hit hard by Hurricane Helene are begging folks to stop lying about FEMA funds being “withheld” and denouncing those spreading skepticism about the rescue efforts. From The Hill:

A mayor in Tennessee joined other local officials Friday to denounce skepticism and rumors that have swirled around the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) response to the devastation in the southeastern U.S. from Hurricane Helene.

Mayor Glenn Jacobs (R), who serves Knox County, Tenn., signaled in a post online that the attacks on the administration could make recovery efforts more difficult. The White House pushed back on these claims Friday, calling out the GOP for “using Hurricane Helene to lie and divide us.”

It also follows skepticism from former President Trump around the Biden administration’s response to the deadly storm, when he claimed FEMA would use hurricane funds on migrants. The White House pushed back on these claims Friday, calling out the GOP for “using Hurricane Helene to lie and divide us.”

During an event Friday in North Carolina, U.S. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Florida), who moderated an event hosting Donald Trump, said it was her opinion that federal authorities have “intentionally not helped out residents” because “it’s red communities impacted.”

Earlier this week, convicted felon Donald Trump repeatedly spread falsehoods about the federal response to Hurricane Helene despite claiming not to be politicizing the disaster.

The former president claimed upon landing in Valdosta that President Joe Biden was “sleeping” and not responding to Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, who he said was “calling the president and hasn’t been able to get him.” He repeated the claim at an event with reporters after being told Kemp said he had spoken to Biden.

“He’s lying, and the governor told him he was lying,” Biden said Monday. The White House previously announced that Biden spoke by phone Sunday night with Kemp and North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper, as well as Scott Matheson, mayor of Valdosta, Georgia, and Florida Emergency Management Director John Louk.

Kemp confirmed Monday morning that he spoke to Biden the night before.

This is some really shameful stuff.
