Report: Golf Course Gunman Never Fired, Never Had Line Of Sight To Trump

Acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe Jr. told reporters today Ryan Routh, who was arrested in connection with what had been described as an apparent assassination attempt of Donald Trump on Sunday, never had line of sight to the former president. A Secret Service agent “immediately discharged his firearm” after seeing the suspect, who was on the public side of a fence at Trump’s Florida golf course. According to Rowe, Routh “did not fire or get off any shots at our agent” and immediately fled the scene leaving an AK-47-style rifle, a scope, two backpacks with ceramic tile and a GoPro camera in the bushes at the golf course. Rowe added that Trump’s golf outing was unscheduled, so Secret Service didn’t have time to sweep the entire golf course. “The president wasn’t even really supposed to go there,” Rowe said. “It was not on his official schedule. And so we put together a security plan, and that security plan worked.” Law enforcement also shared today that cell phone data showed Routh had apparently been in the area for 12 hours before the incident occurred. But why would he sit there for 12 hours not knowing Trump would even playing golf there on Sunday?
