Team USA Women’s Gymnasts Win Gold + More News

Some news items you might have missed: • NBC Olympics: The U.S. women’s gymnastic team took home the gold at the Paris Olympics today, beginning with solid vaults from Simone Biles and Jade Carey and ending with a crowd-rousing routine by Biles on the floor exercise.

• Pink News: New research shows LGBTQ+ Americans are coming out younger than ever before – among LGBTQ+ adults aged 18 to 29, the median age they came out was 17. Those between the ages of 30 and 64, came out in their early twenties. And adults aged 65 and above came out at the median age of 26.

• JoeMyGod: Virulently anti-LGBTQ Pastor Ronnie Goines of Arlington, Texas, has been charged with one count of indecent assault and one count of sexual assault.  His arrest comes after a woman took her accusations to the Arlington Police Department in June. • Washington Post: The folks behind Project 2025 say they are “winding down policy operations” after the 900 page manifesto became a rallying cry for Democrats and a nuisance for Donald Trump.

• Bloomberg News: Vice President Kamala Harris has wiped out Donald Trump’s lead across seven battleground states, as she rides a wave of enthusiasm among young, Black and Hispanic voters, according to the latest Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll. • Boy Culture: Bobby Banas, a hard-working dancer in the background and foreground of dozens of famous TV shows and movies who went viral 11 years ago for a clip from The Judy Garland Show where he threw down a fierce ‘Nitty-Gritty,’ has died at 90.
