A New York appeals court has thrown Donald Trump a lifeline of sorts by ruling today that a $175 million bond will now be sufficient for him to file his appeal on last month’s verdict, in which he lost a civil fraud case and was ordered to pay a $454 million judgment against him. https://twitter.com/nytimes/status/1772284650498424873 From the New York Times:
The ruling by a five-judge panel of appellate court judges was a crucial and unexpected victory for the former president, potentially staving off a looming financial disaster.
Had the court denied his request — and had he failed to obtain the full bond — Mr. Trump risked of losing control over his bank accounts and, eventually, even some of his marquee properties.
The $454 million reflected the interest payments Mr. Trump saved by misleading his lenders, as well as profits from the recent sale of two properties.
Following the ruling, Trump said in a statement he would either put up the money himself or secure the $175 million bond. He has ten days to do so to prevent the New York Attorney General from beginning to seize his properties. https://twitter.com/TristanSnell/status/1772294793650933889
