The owner of an apartment building in Omaha, Nebraska, has painted the 5-unit residence rainbow at the request of his three young daughters. Ryan Basye also admits, though, he embraced the idea after a conversation with a fellow property owner on the block in 2022, during which the neighbor spewed anti-gay remarks. Basye told the Omaha World-Herald, “It puts a smile on my face knowing that neighbor has to see it every day.” “It’s been fun,” he said. “My girls think it’s the coolest thing ever.” https://twitter.com/mduceyOWH/status/1724568437316304937 And it’s not just his daughters who are captivated by the rainbow paint job. Apparently, the rainbow hues have brought smiles to more people than he could have imagined. “This place is right by an elementary school so we get lots of kids walking by with smiles on their faces,” he told USA Today. “It has been about 99% positive.” Basye says he’s noticed folks sometimes drive by the building just for the photo opp. Basye has been a Realtor for 20 years and owns around 25 properties. Thinking the design might be a bit “much” for some, he told tenants that he would help them move if the paint job – or the attention its getting – became too much. But tenants are reportedly enjoying the new paint job, with one renter calling the design “freaking amazing and beautiful.” his wife, Alison, said about it. She finds it interesting that the house is getting so much attention. And his wife Alison told USA Today, “It’s funny, because it’s coming from a boring, moderate, old, straight white guy.” https://twitter.com/MikeSington/status/1725877826346508732
