Kevin McCarthy Removed As Speaker Of The House

For the first time in U.S. history, the Speaker of the House of Representatives has been removed from their position. McCarthy was targeted by a small contingent of far-right House members of his own party after he allowed the House to pass a “clean” continuing resolution on Saturday to keep the government funded. The final vote to oust McCarthy was 216-210. McCarthy’s nine-month speakership was the shortest since 1876, CNN reports. Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC) was named Speaker Pro Tem. His name was first at the top of a secret list of temporary replacements made by McCarthy months ago in case anything were to keep him from serving his duties as Speaker. https://twitter.com/keithboykin/status/1709309639509393760 https://twitter.com/MEPFuller/status/1709308851361661210 https://twitter.com/justinbaragona/status/1709311358309707979 https://twitter.com/BeschlossDC/status/1709285025928122674 https://twitter.com/MaryLTrump/status/1709309269244264935
