What To Watch: Short Film “Fairlane”

I really enjoyed the tender coming-of-age short film Fairlane, directed by Luca Leggieri. Official synopsis:

New in town, Brandon (Jordan Doww) starts working at an auto shop to support his single mother where he’s trained by an experienced mechanic, Evan (Ben Esqueda).

The two spark up a whirlwind romance that takes an unexpected turn when a secret is revealed, throwing a wrench in their relationship.

Leggieri co-wrote the screenplay with Valerie Betts, who also handled director of photography duties. I found the film tight and focused, and the chemistry between the two lead actors is undeniable. Being set in the 1980s, the use of music added that much more to the storytelling. Plus, regular readers know how I love a good short film. According to remarks on the YouTube page, this is a film school thesis project, but you’d never know it. Tip of the hat to Kenneth-in-the-212 for highlighting this thoughtful, gentle short film.
