GOP Challenger: Trump Committed Treason – Pure And Simple

Former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld says Donald Trump's pressure on Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden constitutes treason.

Former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld says Donald Trump's pressure on Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden constitutes treason. Former Massachusetts governor Bill Weld, one of the few Republicans who have announced they will try and challenge Donald Trump in a GOP primary, told MSNBC’s Morning Joe that Trump’s efforts to press the Ukrainian government into investigating former Vice President Joe Biden and his son amounts to “treason pure and simple.” “Talk about pressuring a foreign country to interfere and control a U.S. election,” said Weld. “It couldn’t be clearer. That’s not just undermining Democratic institutions. That is treason. It’s treason pure and simple.” Noting that the penalty for treason in the U.S. is death, Weld said being removed from office would be “a pretty good alternative” for the Donald.

Today’s Trump Twitter Rant: Treasonous FBI & ‘Why Didn’t Anyone Warn Me About Michael Flynn?’

Wrapping up a busy week on Twitter, Donald Trump used his Friday morning rant to again pretend that the FBI "broke the law" by investigating possible collusion between his presidential campaign and Russian operatives.

Wrapping up a busy week on Twitter, Donald Trump used his Friday morning rant to again pretend that the FBI “broke the law” by investigating possible collusion between his presidential campaign and Russian operatives.

Clearly watching Fox News, he quoted a Fox New poll (ha!): “New Fox Poll: 58% of people say that the FBI broke the law in investigating Donald J. Trump.”

And then, for good measure, tried to pretend that he was never warned about Michael Flynn.

From NBC News in May 2017:

Former President Obama warned President Donald Trump against hiring Mike Flynn as his national security adviser, three former Obama administration officials tell NBC News.

The warning, which has not been previously reported, came less than 48 hours after the November election when the two sat down for a 90-minute conversation in the Oval Office.

A senior Trump administration official acknowledged Monday that Obama raised the issue of Flynn, saying the former president made clear he was “not a fan of Michael Flynn.”

According to all three former officials, Obama warned Trump against hiring Flynn. The Obama administration fired Flynn in 2014 from his position as head of the Defense Intelligence Agency, largely because of mismanagement and temperament issues.

Trump Calls Democrats Treasonous For Not Applauding For Him

Speaking to a crowd of supporters in Ohio yesterday, Donald Trump called Democrats “treasonous” for not applauding when he listed his achievements to Congress during his State of the Union address last Tuesday.

“Can we call that treason? Why not?” Trump said during a speech about the GOP tax. “They certainly didn’t seem to love our country very much.”

Here’s the video:

Well, treason is a very serious word to casually throw around. There’s a reason no one has been convicted of the crime in the U.S. since World War II.

So, you can understand why some folks got a bit upset about the comment, including Democratic lawmakers like Sen. Tammy Duckworth and Rep. Tim Walz who spent years and years serving their country in the military. That’s something, by the way, that Trump never did.
