Thomas Roberts talks getting married on Melissa Harris-Perry Show
MSNBC’s Melissa Harris-Perry hosted an in depth discussion on her show about the evolution and expansion of LGBT families, which included guest (and still-glowing newlywed) Thomas Roberts. Roberts explained while sharing his wedding photos with the panel:
“I grew up pretending a lot to fit in; pretending to be straight. When you find your voice, you don’t want to shut up about it – and I have found my voice and feel very privileged to have found it. Patrick and I were together for 12 years up to the point when we got married. We deserved that opportunity. It’s good stuff.”
Wow, this makes me happy to watch. I can’t imagine this being discussed so openly ten years ago. And the joy and enthusiasm in Thomas’ voice is smile inducing.
MSNBC’s Thomas Roberts marries longtime partner Patrick Abner
MSNBC anchor Thomas Roberts married his partner of 12 years, Patrick Abner, in New York over the weekend in a ceremony officiated by California lieutenant governor Gavin Newsom.
Abner and Roberts announced their engagement June 25, 2011, a day after New York State approved marriage equality.
The ceremony and reception were held on the rooftop of the Gansevoort Park Avenue hotel, TV Newser reports. Attendees included CNN’s Don Lemon, Nate Berkus, Good Morning America’s Sam Champion, and reality star Carson Kressley.
Roberts tweeted this pic Monday morning: “Morning in NYC is pretty sweet waking up as a married man!”

Today is the National Day of Silence
MSNBC’s Thomas Roberts on the Day of Silence
Founded in 1996, the Day of Silence has become the largest single student-led action towards creating safer schools for all, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression. From the first-ever Day of Silence at the University of Virginia in 1996, to the organizing efforts in over 8,000 middle schools, high schools, colleges and universities across the country in 2008, its textured history reflects its diversity in both numbers and reach.
The National Day of Silence is a day of action in which students across the country vow to take a form of silence to call attention to the silencing effect of anti-LGBT bullying and harassment in schools.
To help further conversation on the Day of Silence, students carry cards with them that read: “Please understand my reasons for not speaking today. I am participating in the Day of Silence (DOS), a national youth movement bringing attention to the silence faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and their allies. My deliberate silence echoes that silence, which is caused by anti-LGBT bullying, name-calling and harassment. I believe that ending the silence is the first step toward building awareness and making a commitment to address these injustices. Think about the voices you are not hearing today.”

MSNBC continues to follow NOM scandal
MSNBC’s Thomas Roberts did a segment this morning on the damaging NOM document dump with Truth Wins Out’s Wayne Besen and NOM’s Maggie Gallagher, but Gallagher failed to show even though she confirmed an hour beforehand, so Roberts just showed an empty chair.
Roberts later tweeted that there was a booking mistake and apparently Maggie Gallagher went to the wrong studio.
However, I’m glad this story is getting the air time and attention it warrants. This is really an important story – to find out this anti-gay organization has spent time and resources pitting different minorities against each other.
Seriously, folks, this world needs less divisiveness and more unity. There’s no way to spin this that comes out good.

Maryland Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown on Marriage Equality
How great is this guy? Maryland is lucky to have an elected official who is so fair-minded, clear thinking and articulate.
I’m a fan of Thomas Roberts, too. Good solid anchor and reporter. He always seems to know his stuff. A real pro.
