New Music: Matt Zarley “hopefulROMANTIC”

After a successful crowdfunding campaign, a concept that went from music album to musical short film, plus film festival awards, Matt Zarley’s new album hopefulROMANTIC is finally available.

hopefulROMANTIC is a universal story about loving, letting go, and holding onto faith that
there’s somebody for everybody.

And it’s not only a new album – it’s two! Zarley has released a “pop versions” CD of the songs that comprise his award-winning short film of the same name, and a movie soundtrack with the film versions of the songs.

Check out the new albums on iTunes and Amazon.

And check out his latest music video (taken from the film) featuring the iconic George Takei in his role as “George O’Mei” who helps Zarley’s character find renewed hope on his journey to romance.

Plus – check out part of my interview with George Takei from the red carpet at the LA preview of hopefulROMANTIC:

Preview: Matt Zarley “Constantly” from upcoming hopefulROMANTIC

The second music video preview of Matt Zarley’s upcoming musical short film, hopefulROMANTIC.

From Matt:

hopefulROMANTIC is a universal story about loving, letting go, and holding onto faith there is somebody for everybody.

The practically dialogue free narrative is articulated solely thru Matt Zarley & Andy Zulla’s soulful pop score.

Zarley co-stars w/ George Takei, Chuck Saculla, & Jolie Jenkins.

Directed by Benjamin Pollack.

Short Film: “Out Smart”

What if coming out “smart” was the same as coming out as gay today? Filmmakers Dawn Cobalt and Andrew Bryan Smith present this short film satire:

In our short film “Out Smart,” a teenage boy faces his parents’ shock and outrage when he “comes out.” He’s not gay, though. He’s smart!

We made the film as a tool to talk about coming out. “Out Smart” satirizes the most common objections made to those who come out LGBT.

We hope this unusual context makes these remarks seem as ridiculous and hurtful as they are.

We also hope the not-yet-out LGBT person might feel emboldened by that — and certainly less alone.

Nearly 50 chapters of PFLAG nationwide have screened “Out Smart,” from Little Rock, Arkansas, to Kauai, Hawaii, and Juneau, Alaska. Schools and churches, too. It’s won 6 awards and 8 nominations and appeared in two dozen film festivals around the world.

Kickstarter campaign: Short film “Discretion”

Film maker Tommy Garcia is looking to fund a new short film that brings a debate about monogamy into focus.

I want to create a debate about monogamy – both in gay and straight relationships.

Is there any one correct type of relationship? Or should everyone exercise their own “Discretion?”

I also want to show that LGBT cinema does not have to be strictly “niche,” and can reach all audiences with universal conflicts and themes. As a gay filmmaker, it is my wish to begin exploring the minutiae of equality in 2014.

Garcia’s short film, “Airbag,” premiered at the 2012 Los Angeles International Short Film Festival – the world’s largest AMPAS and BAFTA-accredited short film festival.

Check out the video for his Kickstarter campaign below.

Short film: “First Kiss”

Directed by Ttia Pilieva, First Kiss puts two strangers together and asks them to kiss each other for the first time.

All kinds of couples here and it’s pretty interesting watching the dynamics. The participants go from awkward to shy to really being in the moment during their kiss.

The clip begs the question – How many of you have kissed a stranger?

I’ll answer first – Yes.
