Missing You Madly, Dear Rona

Rona Newton-John

Four years ago, my dear, wonderful, “partner in crime” Rona Newton-John passed away on Memorial Day 2013 from a diagnosis of brain cancer.

The time between diagnosis to her passing was swift, only a matter of weeks. Fortunately, Rona did not suffer during that time.

I miss her laugh, her smile, and her wicked sense of humor.

I miss her.

In 2015, Olivia shared a painting of Rona (see above) by her longtime bff, Pat Farrar. It fills my heart to see Rona’s spirit captured so beautifully.

My magical, marvelous Rona. You are never gone, you smile in my heart forever.

Lifting a vodka martini in your memory today.

“Goody, goody.”

Missing My Dear Rona Newton-John

I originally posted this two years ago when my dear, fun loving friend Rona Newton-John passed away on Memorial Day 2013 from a diagnosis of brain cancer.

I miss her laugh and smile all the time.

Today, Olivia Newton-John shared a painting of Rona (see above) by her longtime bestie Pat Farrar. It makes me smile to see Rona’s spirit captured so beautifully.

A note from Olivia Newton-John on the passing of her sister, Rona Newton-John:

My beautiful sister Rona sadly passed on May 24th in Los Angeles. It was May 25th in Australia – which was our mother Irene’s birthday. Rona died of a very aggressive brain tumor and mercifully suffered no pain. She was surrounded by the love of her four children – Fiona, Brett,Tottie and Emerson, and her wonderful friends. I will miss her forever – my beautiful smart talented funny brave sister Rona.

In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to the ONJCWC where a brain tumor wellness program will be started in her name. Thank you all for your kind words of love and support.

Love and light,
Olivia

Olivia Newton-John on her sister Rona Newton-John’s recent diagnosis of brain cancer

Michael and I with Olivia and Rona Newton-John

From Olivia Newton-John:

“I recently received the very sad news that my beautiful sister, Rona Newton-John, has been diagnosed with brain cancer.

“In light of this news, I have decided to postpone my forthcoming Las Vegas residency to spend time with her and our family.

“As a cancer ‘thriver’ myself, as many people are, I am very aware of the importance of love, support and family during this journey she is about to begin. I want to thank everyone in advance for respecting our privacy during this difficult time. “

I have personally gotten to know Rona over the past several years, and we’ve developed a close friendship between us.  Rona is bright, clever, funny, warm and a delight.  I care for her greatly.

I don’t ask anything of my readers very often, but if you could – please send your best thoughts Rona’s way.   I personally appreciate it.

The Los Angeles Beat: Rona Newton-John

Donna Lethal, who writes for The Los Angeles Beat, recently wrote about one of my favorite people – Rona Newton-John.

I adore Rona, and I love that the first thing she mentions is her sense of honesty, which is really right at the top of what makes Rona so fab.

Make sure you check out Rona’s new Blog – Out There with Rona – on Tumblr

I wanted to share just a bit of the article.  Go to The Los Angeles Beat to read the whole piece.

10 Things (more or less)  that make Rona…Rona

Truth is the most important thing to me… simply telling the truth. Being honest, hopefully without hurting feelings. My sister jokingly says I need an edit button, (and occasionally she’s right,) but she also knows I’ll always tell her and everyone I really care about how (I feel) it is. I expect the same in return.

I started ballet class at five years old, so exercise has always been a very important part of my life. Almost everyday for the last ten years I have hiked the trails from Fryman Canyon in Studio City up into the hills. I prefer to go alone, because it’s my solitary time to think, to feel grateful for my life, and feel one with nature.

I was a successful model very young, and I worked a lot as an actress. I was very lucky. Work came to me…I really didn’t have the drive or ambition to go after it. However, twenty-five years ago I found what I really love to do… I love to write. I’ve recently finished my memoir …and I’m about to start my own blog.  It’s going to called ‘Out there with Rona’.

Last but far from least. Motorcycles. I was introduced to the incredible beauty of Northern California, Oregon and Washington State from the back of my ex-boyfriends motorcycle. To me there is nothing more exciting or exhilarating than riding through the changing temperatures of the country-side breathing in nature; wild sage by the roadside, pine trees on high mountain roads, or salty air from the waves crashing on beaches far below. Then nights spent in quaint motels in small towns in the middle of nowhere, playing pool in smoky bars, having dinner in a diner or talking to the colorful locals.

I miss it.
