Viral Video: “RepubliCATS”

As a CATS alum myself – I often joke I did the show back when it was a good credit – I find this very funny. Great original details thrown in for authenticity.

I love that the Rum Tum Tugger is played by Trump, who admits this has all been a joke and he really doesn’t want to be in the race at all.

Majority Of Republicans Would Attend A Same-Sex Wedding

According to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll, 56 percent of Republicans would show up for the nuptials of a loved one marrying a same-sex partner.

While this figure still trails the attendance of Democrats (80 percent) and those who identify as independent (70 percent), it contrasts with the anti-gay views expressed by many in the Republican leadership.

In total, 68 percent of respondents said they would accept the same-sex wedding invitation, 19 percent would decline, and 13 percent were undecided.

North Carolina: Gov. McCrory Speaks Out Against “Religious Freedom” Legislation

Speaking on WFAE’s Charlotte Talks with Mike Collins, North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory (R) spoke out against a bill in his state’s legislature that would mimic the controversial “Religious Freedom” laws in Indiana, which could allow for legalized discrimination against LGBT folks.

“What is the problem they’re trying to solve?” McCrory said during a radio interview. “I haven’t seen it at this point in time.”

McCrory also denounced a bill approved in the state Senate that would allow magistrates to “opt-out” of performing same-sex marriages if they were so inclined.

“I don’t think you should have an exemption when you took an oath to uphold … the constitution of North Carolina,” he said.

Indiana Republican candidate: No one has the guts to let poor people die

An Indiana Republican candidate for the 10th District is backtracking on statements he made about the poor in an online discussion.

John Johnston, taking part in a discussion on a Mad Mac page which covers local politics had this to say:

“I was not trying to hurt anybody’s feelings,” Johnston said. “I saw the opportunity to say something. I think a lot of the poor have no way out, and there’s no motivation to improve your position. It’s like training a child, either you enable them or force them out at some point.”

“For almost three generations people, in some cases, have been given handouts,” Johnston said during the discussion. “They have been ‘enabled’ so much that their paradigm in life is simply being given the stuff of life, however meager.”

“What you see is a setting for a life of misery is life to them never-the-less,” he continued. “No one has the guts to just let them wither and die. No one who wants votes is willing to call a spade a spade. As long as the Dems can get their votes the enabling will continue. The Republicans need their votes and dare not cut the fiscal tether. It is really a political Catch-22.”

“The voters are the ones in charge,” Johnston said. “(H)owever when only 10-11 percent show up to vote, not much will change. People simply are not hurting enough, or simply happy enough that they will do nothing. consequently the dole continues.”

Describing his comments to The Post Tribune as “hyperbole,” Johnston has since backtracked saying he has no intention of ending welfare or food stamp programs.

That happened, of course, after his comments came to light.

Texas state Republican Party endorses “ex-gay” therapy

Over the weekend, the Texas Republican Party voted to endorse controversial “ex-gay” therapy as a plank to the state GOP’s platform.

More than 10,000 attendees voted to add the following language to the party platform:

‘We recognize the legitimacy and efficacy of counseling, which offers reparative therapy and treatment for those patients seeking healing and wholeness from their homosexual lifestyle. No laws or executive orders shall be imposed to limit or restrict access to this type of therapy.’

According to CNN Cathie Adams, president of the Texas Eagle Forum, championed the inclusion of conversion therapy.

‘Nothing is mandatory,’ Adams said to CNN. ‘If a person chooses counseling, then it should be made available. California and New Jersey have passed bills outlawing it altogether, which is under litigation. It’s a freedom issue.’

The American Psychological Association has stated that “ex-gay” therapy, also known as “reparative therapy” is ‘unlikely to be successful and involve some risk of harm.’

Learn To Speak Benghazi

Animated cartoon by Pulitzer Prize-winner Mark Fiore.

As congressional Republicans keep beating the Benghazi drum heading into this fall’s elections, it might be helpful for the rest of the world to understand and master the language of “Benghazi.”

Simplified, the language of “Benghazi” allows Republicans to continue to ignore the business of the US and launch two or three more investigations of the Benghazi attacks.

Because the seven or eight investigations held so far weren’t enough…

Poll: Growing minority of conservatives support marriage equality

Pew Research Center has a new poll that shows over the past decade a growing minority of conservatives are starting to support marriage equality.

Nearly three in ten of Republicans (29%) and political conservatives (30%) are gay marriage supporters.

Twelve years ago,  21% of Republicans and 18% of conservatives expressed this view.

‘Adults under age 30 who say they are Republican or lean Republican are much more supportive of same-sex marriage (54%) than Republicans 65 and older (18%),’ the study said.
