Terence Stamp Filmed Scenes For ‘Priscilla 2’ Before His Passing

Terence Stamp as Bernadette in 'Priscilla Queen of the Desert'

Wow. Deadline is reporting that in the months before his death, Terence Stamp filmed scenes reprising his role of “Bernadette” for an upcoming sequel to the hit movie Priscilla Queen of the Desert.

Director Stephan Elliott says Stamp was originally hesitant to revisit the now-iconic role, but was persuaded by a promise that Priscilla Queen of the Desert 2, its working title, would not just be a repeat of the original. Matt Baume Explores Cultural Impact Of ‘Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert’

Matt Baume hosts ‘Culture Cruise’
Super-smart Matt Baume explores the cultural impact of the 1994 indie film, Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, in the latest episode of his web series, Culture Cruise. Baume’s popular series regularly takes a look at queer moments in TV and film that changed the world. In 1994, a broken-down bus named Priscilla departed Sydney’s gay enclave, carrying three glamorous performers to the rural heart of Australia on the most perilous journey of their lives. And although only three of them set out in the film, they were soon followed in real life by an entire drag army. Baume notes the film became so popular in the land Down Under ” that six years later Australia paid tribute to it at the Sydney Olympics.” Organizers for the Closing Ceremonies featured a contingent of drag queens and pop star Kylie Minogue performed one of the ABBA songs from the film. Also – the town of Broken Hill, featured in the film as hostile to the three traveling queens, now has become home to a huge annual drag fest called ‘Broken Heel.’ But Matt tells the tale much better than I. Take a few minutes and hit the play button below.

“Priscilla, Queen of the Desert” to end Las Vegas run early

“Priscilla, Queen of the Desert” will be packing up the fab disco bus and heading back out on the road a bit early.  The Las Vegas Sun shares the unhappy news:

The critically acclaimed North American tour was originally booked at The Venetian Theater through mid-August, or 11 weeks, but an analysis of ticket-sale trends has led producers to adjust the schedule to a five-week run.

As the longest stop on the tour, the Las Vegas engagement of “Priscilla” received rave reviews from critics and continues to draw enthusiastic audience reactions. At its final curtain July 21, the cast will have performed 30 performances at The Venetian.

I attended the opening night and had a ball, as did the entire audience. Instant standing ovation for the exceptional cast. I am glad to see the tour will continue from Las Vegas though with performances in San Francisco beginning on Aug. 21.

Tickets for the remaining run can be purchased by clicking here.  GO!

I also recently interviewed the 3 principal actors of the show Wade McCollum (“Tick”), Bryan West (“Felecia”) and Scott Willis (“Bernadette”) for The Candi & Randy Show. You can listen to the terrific trio by clicking play below.
