Man Dies While Attending Unofficial Atlanta Pride Dance Event

While Atlanta Pride organizers decided to hold a series of virtual Pride events this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, there were still some unofficial live dance events where video and photos of shirtless men dancing shoulder to shoulder made their way onto social media. One party-goer died early Sunday morning at one of the unofficial events. From The Advocate:

Emergency workers had attempted to resuscitate the man, who was found unconscious at the club BJ Roosters; he had passed out in the venue’s basement earlier in the morning after consuming the drug ecstasy, said his partner. Atlanta police found no signs of foul play, but an investigation is ongoing.

The event held early Sunday morning at BJ Roosters, from 3 a.m. to 7 a.m., was Xion, a gay circuit party thrown by Ga Boy Events. The group had organized several unofficial events during Atlanta Pride weekend, including a Saturday night party at the Underground Atlanta mall with Danny Verde and an event at District Atlanta with Nina Flowers.

One of Xion’s attendees, who asked to remain anonymous, forwarded a statement to The Advocate claiming that pandemic guidelines were not being enforced at the event, which was “packed” with hundreds of guests to “overcapacity at times.”

The victim was apparently in crisis for over 30 minutes with an onlooker performing CPR before paramedics showed up. The witness also told The Advocate that he’d attended parties all over the world and never been to one without EMTs standing by.

Michael Henry Shines A Light On The Use Of GHB In Gay Culture

Michael Henry is back with another lighthearted yet pointed message about how some behaviors in gay culture can be dangerous. Chatting in the park about the upcoming ‘Zebra Meat Disco party,’ Michael Fariss shares that he’s heading home to make his “special cocktail” with GHB. Yeah, that would be the date rape drug. Michael Henry and Chris Renfro are understandably confused. “So you’re micro-dosing the date rape drug to feel peak buzz?” asks Chris. After listing the many dangers involved in using the drug – including a one-drop threshold between bliss and incapacitation – Fariss admits he has “G-ed out” in the past. “I was in a paralyzed-like state, I shook, I had heart palpitations, and I was completely incoherent. My friend said I projectile vomited and fell through a skylight,” says Fariss. “BUT – before that, I was horny as hell.” Eventually, Fariss flips the script on Henry and Renfro pointing out that alcohol can lead to becoming incapacitated as well. • Out pop singer/songwriter Gia Woods drops her new music video, “Jump The Fence,” which offers a groovy respite with shades of female empowerment and sexual freedom.

Billboard gushed about the new song calling it “a breathy pop ear-worm packed with tribal-like pulsations and distant howls that matches the musical climate while maintaining an undeniable edge.”

Gia’s breakout music video, “Only A Girl,” has garnered over 10 million viesw and counting. The talented 22-year-old is prepping to release her debut EP later this year.
