“I Wish We Were Leaving” is the title track of Bright Light Bright Light’s (aka Rod Thomas) new EP out on April 7 (as well as a track from his forthcoming sophomore record Life Is Easy, due out in July) — and Thomas shares vocal duties with Sir Elton John. The duet happened after Elton John reached out to Rod Thomas to praise BLBL’s debut album, Make Me Believe In Hope. “From then I kept hearing his voice on the track,” Thomas tells The Guardian. “In time I played him ‘I Wish We Were Leaving’ and he added his vocals. Although it wasn’t written as a duet, I love that his voice taking lead in the second verse is a reminder that every relationship has two sides and two voices.”
Music: Walk Off The Earth “Happy”
JoeMyGod points up a new video by Walk Off The Earth – a cover of the smash hit “Happy.”
The group has become famous for their innovative cover songs and videos which feature band members trading instruments midsong or elaborate “one-take” performances.
Although, their videos can be pretty creative. Here’s one of my favorites by the band with over 2.6 million views – “Material Girl.” Find the band on iTunes here.
9-time Grammy nominee Dave Koz guests with Postmodern Jukebox – “Careless Whisper”

| Dave Koz (R) guests with Postmodern Jukebox |
I love me some Dave Koz.
Dave guests on a very different version of the 80s hit “Careless Whisper” with Postmodern Jukebox.
Scott Bradlee, the genius behind Postmodern Jukebox, seeks to reinvent pop songs in what he feels are new, more artistic settings:
“My goal with Postmodern Jukebox is to get my audience to think of songs not as rigid, ephemeral objects, but like malleable globs of silly putty. Songs can be twisted, shaped, and altered without losing their identities–just as we grow, age, and expire without losing ours–and it is through this exploration that the gap between “high” and “low” art can be bridged most readily.”
Dave (9-time Grammy Award nominee, don’t you know) has a great solo beginning at 1:42 exploring different styles with the song. He’s also a little cagey in the beginning playing a bit then sneaking out.
You can check out more from Dave here, and more from Postmodern Jukebox here.

Tony Award-winner Billy Porter’s new solo album – “Billy’s Back on Broadway”
On April 15, 2014, Tony Award-winner Billy Porter will release his debut CD on Concord Records, Billy’s Back on Broadway.
Featuring ten classics made famous on the Great White Way that focus on inspiration, empowerment and hope, the album’s title is a nod to Sammy Davis, Jr.’s recording Sammy’s Back on Broadway.
“The canon of great Broadway songs is so vast and I have so many favorites that the only way I could narrow them down was to choose a theme,” Porter says of the songs on Billy’s Back on Broadway. “Once I settled on what I wanted to say and the journey I wanted the listener to take, the songs made their presence known rather quickly.”
While Porter grew up as a gospel singer, he transitioned to theater, making his Broadway debut in the original cast of Miss Saigon. “Seeing Jennifer Holliday from Dreamgirls perform on the Tony® Awards telecast and later discovering Barbra Streisand by listening to her albums at the Carnegie Library in Pittsburgh really changed everything for me,” Porter says of his career path. “When Barbra released her first Broadway album I was about 15 years old, and I thought, ‘One day, I’m going to make my own Broadway album – just like Babs!’”
Joining Billy on one track will be pop music legend and fellow Tony Award-winner Cyndi Lauper, dueting with Porter on “Happy Days/Get Happy,” a tune made famous by Streisand and Judy Garland. “I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Cyndi is one of the godmothers of individuality,” Porter explains. “She forged a path for so many of us that didn’t fit into the status quo. I learned so much and have felt so inspired by her journey as an artist and human being before I even knew her. She’s a blessing and a gift, and I’m so thrilled she said ‘yes’ when I asked her to sing on this album.”
Porter continues to star on Broadway in Kinky Boots in his award winning role as “Lola.” The show, based on the 2005 British movie of the same name, tells the story of a drag queen who helps to rescue a floundering shoe factory. Kinky Boots celebrates its one year on Broadway anniversary in April 2014.
Now the winner of every major theater award, including the 2013 Tony® Award for Best Actor in a Musical, Porter is truly living the dream.
The CD is available for pre-order on Amazon.

Music video: Pharrell mash-up by Pomplamoose “Happy Get Lucky”
Creative music video from Pomplamoose. Shot in one take, no cuts or invisible edits starting at 0:04.
Titled “Happy Get Lucky,” the track/video samples from “Get Lucky”, “Happy”, and a dash of “Lose Yourself to Dance” in a really impressive video that was done in a single take and using a single projector shining on white foam core.
From the band:
For the verse of our mashup, we used the chords from “Get Lucky” with the vocals from “Happy.” For our prechorus, we used the vocals from both “Happy” and “Get Lucky.” The chorus of our mashup is the chords and vocals from “Happy” and the vocals from “Lose Yourself to Dance.”
Sunday morning music: “Sweet Child of Mine” New Orleans-style
From the YouTube description:
“Our friend Miche Braden returned to help us show what Guns N’ Roses “Sweet Child O’ Mine” would have sounded like if New Orleans blues legend Bessie Smith had recorded it back in the ’20s. That note at 3:58 was so powerful that the room literally shook…”
