The first trailer for the upcoming Star Trek Beyond (over 6 million views in one day) looks to be a bit less cerebral and a lot more “action movie.”

Following the critically acclaimed global smash hit X-Men: Days of Future Past, director Bryan Singer returns with X-MEN: APOCALYPSE.
Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshipped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible.
Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign.
As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.
Opens May 27, 2016.
Warner Brothers dropped this sneak peek at Batman v. Superman: Dawn Of Justice just two days ago and it’s already racked up over 8 million views.
The two things of interest here (besides Henry Cavill, who is “of interest” at all times to me, so that’s a given):
1. Batman is often seen in a tight jam. And he always gets out. But we rarely see him look this vulnerable. Why is this clip what WB wants us to see?
2. The anger in Superman’s face is so intense you have to wonder “what up, Supes?” According to sources, we know there’s kryptonite in the film, so did someone use it for a kind of mind-control over the Man of Steel? Or, is this a dream sequence?
The rest of the trailer will debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live tonight.
Batman v. Superman: Dawn Of Justice hits theaters March 25, 2016.
I know my hubby Michael will love this movie. But there is already a bit of scandal around the film, that doesn’t open until February 26th.
When the trailer dropped earlier this month, critics denounced the casting of the film due to a huge lack of diversity. A movie titled “Gods of Egypt” had not one Egyptian cast in a major role.
The film’s studio responded to the criticism:
“We recognize that it is our responsibility to help ensure that casting decisions reflect the diversity and culture of the time periods portrayed,” the studio said. “In this instance we failed to live up to our own standards of sensitivity and diversity, for which we sincerely apologize. Lionsgate is deeply committed to making films that reflect the diversity of our audiences. We have, can and will continue to do better.”
“The process of casting a movie has many complicated variables, but it is clear that our casting choices should have been more diverse,” Proyas added. “I sincerely apologize to those who are offended by the decisions we made.”
Michael and I enjoy these kinds of fantasy/action films, so I’m sure we’ll see it at some point. But I’m glad the idea of diversity was brought up here. You have to wonder if the idea of casting an Egyptian actor even came up during the casting process….?

The BBC has shared the first promo image from the upcoming “Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie” starring Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley in their now iconic TV comedy roles as “Edina” and “Patsy.”
From Variety:
In the movie, which is adapted from the BBC TV series, Edina and Patsy are still living the high life: shopping, drinking and clubbing their way around London’s trendiest hotspots. Blamed for a major incident at an uber-fashionable launch party, they become entangled in a media storm, and are relentlessly pursued by the paparazzi. Fleeing penniless to the playground of the super-rich, the French Riviera, they hatch a plan to make their escape permanent, and live a life of luxury forever.
We are HUGE fans of the series in my house. When I first met Michael, it was one of the first pop culture experiences he insisted on sharing with me. It took me a few episodes to find my footing, but now I’m just as big a aficionado. Can’t wait for the movie to come out sometime in 2016.
Grammy Award winner and out singer/songwriter Sam Smith shared his upcoming theme song “Writing’s On The Wall” for the next Bond film – Spectre – with fans this week.
Smith is the first openly gay male artist to record a Bond song, plus he’s the first British male singer to do so in 50 years.
Two years ago Adele won an Oscar for her Bond song “Skyfall” – which I think was a home run,
Spectre, starring Daniel Craig, hits theaters November 6th.
Take a listen below – do you think it lives up to the history of Bond themes like “Goldfinger,” “Live and Let Die,” or “Skyfall?”
Variety notes the Oscar buzz around the upcoming Cate Blanchett film, Carol, which chronicles the journey of a lesbian romance set in the 1950s.
Oscar buzz began for the film, directed by Todd Haynes, following its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May.
Blanchett plays a Manhattan socialite trapped in a loveless marriage with Kyle Chandler, whose life is forever changed when she meets a department store clerk (Mara).
The lovely and stylish, set to the song “My Foolish Heart,” shows the blossoming romance.
Opens in theaters in the US November 20.
