Reid Ewing of MODERN FAMILY casually comes out on Twitter

Reid Ewing, of Modern Family fame, casually noted his sexuality in a tweet about Eugene Bata’s recent appearance on Good Morning America addressing body dysmorphia, which Reid had recently written about.

Cameron & Mitchell of “Modern Family” finally walk down the aisle

After an entire season of planning, Cameron (Eric Stonestreet) and Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) finally walked down the aisle in the season 5 finale of “Modern Family.”

In the wake of several states legalizing same-sex marriage and a Gallup poll showing support for marriage equality is at an all-time high, Cam and Mitch’s wedding is a timely end to the season.

Modern Family stars on the Straight-Gay Alliance for Straight-Gay Marriage

Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet play a gay couple on “Modern Family” and they’ve kind of become spokespeople for the same sex marriage movement.

Eric is actually straight, but that hasn’t stopped their characters from becoming positive role models for same sex couples.

Watch their “PSA” for the “Straight-Gay Alliance for Straight-Gay Marriage.”

ACLU starts campaign to see “Modern Family” gay couple get married

The ACLU is would really, really like to see ABC to have the gay characters on Modern Family get married.

Having two main characters in a wildly popular show get married would put the issue of marriage equality in living rooms across the country and generate conversations about the importance of allowing same-sex couples to marry – the kinds of conversations that we know change hearts and minds.

And because it’s a weekly series, the message won’t go away during the closing credits. It will be back next week, and the weeks after that, and again during summer reruns. The wedding would demonstrate that marriage — with its unique recognition of love and commitment — matters. And it’s a choice that should be readily available.

Here’s the link to the petition.

My favorite Emmy Award wins of the night

Modern Family won four Emmy Awards last night, including its third consecutive trophy for best comedy series.

ABC’s hit LGBT-inclusive sitcom also won awards for Directing (director Steve Levitan), and supporting actors Julie Bowen and Eric Stonestreet.

Jessica Lange, as expected won for outstanding supporting actress for her work in Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story. This was Lange’s second win as she previously won for best actress in a miniseries/TV movie for the 2008 drama Grey Gardens.

My personal favorite win of the night was Julianne Moore for best actress in a miniseries/TV movie for her fab portrayal of Sarah Palin. Game Change, HBO’s drama about the 2008 election, also won for best miniseries/TV movie, best director for Jay Roach, and Danny Strong for best writing for miniseries/TV movie.

Moore, a longtime ally to the LGBT community, said in her acceptance speech: “I feel so validated because Sarah Palin gave me a big thumbs down,” Moore said while accepting the trophy.

Interesting fact of the night: Mad Men set a new record by losing all seventeen Emmys it was nominated for.
