Marriott now welcomes gay weddings at their hotels

The Mormon-owned Marriott chain of hotels has begun welcoming gay weddings at their hotels.

From the Marriott website:

“Marriott hotels provide ideal venues for ceremonies honoring you and your partner. With luxurious hotels and stunning resorts all around the world, we offer the perfect settings and Planning Services for your most special day. Continue the magic of your union with the perfect honeymoon. With our Honeymoon Gift Registry, we make it possible for your friends and family to provide the get-away of your dreams.”

Mind you, Mitt Romney was once a member of the board at Marriott…

Wisconsin recall wrap-up

So the long and short of it is: after out spending challenger Tom Barrett on a scale of 8 to 1, Gov. Scott Walker remains the governor in Wisconsin.  With 99% of the vote in, Walker beat Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett (D) by seven percentage points, 53%-46%, which was almost identical to the margin in their 2010 contest.

What apparently helped Walker – besides 75% of his campaign money coming from out of state – was 60% in exit polls said that recalls are legitimate only for official misconduct, which they didn’t feel was the case here.

However, a couple of bright spots for Democrats from the evening:

1. The Obama White House and Chicago campaign headquarters can take comfort that the exit poll shows Obama beating Romney by seven points, 51%-44%, and it even shows him slightly ahead of Romney on improving the economy, 42%-38%.

2. Wisconsin Democrats appeared to have assumed control of the state Senate with results posted early Wednesday showing former Sen. John Lehman (D-Racine) defeating incumbent Van Wanggaard in a tight race.

Mitt Romney’s budget proposal vs. Solyndra

Mitt Romney gave a performance today in front of the Solyndra offices trying to make a point about government spending and debt ($535 million given to Solyndra for development and research).

Meanwhile, he ignores the fact that his own budget proposal would cost over $10 trillion.  The graphic above shows how those two amounts relate to each other.

Things that make you go “hmm….”

Growth of government spending slowest in 60 years under President Obama

Mitt Romney says federal spending has accelerated under President Obama.

Actually, the facts bear out something quite the opposite: Federal spending under President Obama grew at the slowest pace in 60 years.  Click on the pic above to see rate of spending under the last 8 administrations.

From Politifact:

Obama has indeed presided over the slowest growth in spending of any president using raw dollars, and it was the second-slowest if you adjust for inflation. The math simultaneously backs up Nutting’s calculations and demolishes Romney’s contention. The only significant shortcoming of the graphic is that it fails to note that some of the restraint in spending was fueled by demands from congressional Republicans. On balance, we rate the claim Mostly True.

Poll: President Obama leads in three important swing states

President Obama holds a narrow lead in three important swing states, according to new polling from NBC News and Marist College.  But the polls also indicate Mitt Romney is well within striking distance in each state.

The Marist polls show Obama at 48 percent in all three, while Romney trails by just a few points in each.

Here’s the rundown:
Florida: Obama 48, Romney 44
Ohio: Obama 48, Romney 42
Virginia: Obama 48 , Romney 44

Obama has a significant edge when it comes to favorability. The measure, which is more based on personal attributes than job performance, shows at least half of voters in each state rate the president favorably.

Romney, meanwhile, is in negative territory in Ohio and Virginia, suggesting he has some ground to make up when it comes to his personal brand.

Graph: Job growth during Obama Administration – May 2012

Graph showing job growth during the Obama Administration.  Statistics from Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The red bars indicate President Bush’s last months.  The blue indicates the initial job losses during Obama’s first months in office before his policies could make an impact.

After one year of stopping the bleeding, we moved into positive territory.  We’ve actually seen over two years of positive private sector job growth.

Remember – Mitt Romney says this is the wrong direction.  So instead of job growth, is he saying he wants to go in the other direction and LOSE more jobs???
