Women of the World Poetry Slam: “To Michele Bachmann”

Sierra DeMulder, finalist in the 2013 Women of the World Poetry Slam, during the one minute round in WOWPS prelims in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

DeMulder takes Michele Bachmann and husband to task for their clinic which offers “reparative therapy” to gay and lesbians.

Strictly business, indeed.

Transcript (via Towleroad):

“Your husband owns a clinic that offers to cure homosexuality for up to $10,000 a year. So when you, Representative Bachmann, refused to acknowledge the bullying of gay students in your district, this must have been strictly business.

“When another gay teenager commits suicide in Minnesota, you consider this free advertising. You buy a new necklace for every hanging, a bottle of Merlot for each overdose, your husband sends ‘thank you’ cards to their funeral, hand-signed, all referrals welcomed.

“How could we expect you to take a stand against bullying when it helps pay for your mortgage, when it puts food in your children’s belly? One day, your youngest daughter will ask you why her school supplies feel like they belong to someone else, her pencils write names that are not hers, Samantha, Nick, Aaron, Kevin. Tell her the truth Michele, that blood money is not a metaphor, that your wallet is heavy with those who have untied themselves. Tell your daughter that God is the bully with the biggest fist and you can only hope that he is on your side!”

Michele Bachmann under investigation for alleged presidential campaign “improprieties”

According to the Daily Beast, Michele Bachmann is currently being investigated by the Office of Congressional Ethics for “improprieties” regarding her failed presidential campaign.

From the Daily Beast report:

Federal investigators are now interviewing former Bachmann campaign staffers nationwide about alleged intentional campaign-finance violations. The investigators are working on behalf of the Office of Congressional Ethics, which probes reported improprieties by House members and their staffs and then can refer cases to the House Ethics Committee.

Former staffers tell The Daily Beast that investigators have allegedly asked about allegations of improper transfer of funds and under-the-table payments actions by Bachmann’s presidential campaign, specifically in relation to the campaign’s national political director, Guy Short, and Bachmann’s onetime Iowa campaign chairman, state Sen. Kent Sorenson. Questions directly about Bachmann, they said, have been primarily focused on what she knew about those men’s actions and when she knew it.

Well, well, well… things that make you go “hmm…”

Michele Bachmann runs from her own mistatements

At CPAC on March 16th, Michele Bachmann made the following statement:

“A new book is out talking about the perks and the excess of the $1.4-billion-a-year presidency that we’re paying for. And this is a lifestyle that is one of excess. Now we find out that there are five chefs on Air Force One. There are two projectionists who operate the White House movie theater. They regularly sleep at the White House in order to be readily available in case the first family wants a really, really late show. And I don’t mean to be petty here, but can’t they just push the play button? We are also the ones who are paying for someone to walk the president’s dog, paying for someone to walk the president’s dog? Now, why are we doing that when we can’t even get a disabled veteran into the White House for a White House tour? That isn’t caring!”

As usual, Ms. Bachmann is wrong on every count. And when CNN’s Dana Bash asks her about her assertions – Ms. Bachmann can’t seem to walk away fast enough. And strangely, she diverts to the Benghazi issue when Bachmann herself brought up these “White House cost” ideas.

Over at the Washington Post, the fact checkers have found Ms. Bachmann wrong on every count, giving her 4 “Pinocchios.”

According to the Washington Post, former White House aide Bradley H. Patterson Jr. attempted to figure out the tab for the White House for a book, “To Serve the President,” published in 2010 by the Brookings Institution.

Patterson estimated that the cost of running the White House for fiscal year 2008 — when George W. Bush was president — was nearly $1.6 billion. About half — more than $800 million — related to the Secret Service budget. An additional $271 million was spent on the president’s helicopter squadron.

If Bush is a $1.6 billion man, I guess that means that President Obama is saving the country money at $1.4 billion?

Michelle Bachman: “I’m not a judgmental person”

SRSLY. Does Michelle Bachmann know the definition of the word “bigot”?

From the Merriam-Webster Dictionary – Bigot: “a person who is obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially : one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance”

Not necessarily a bad word.  Just accurate in her case.

She holds obstinately to her own opinions.  Neither rude nor wrong.  Pretty accurate.

Piers Morgan reads Bachmann one of her quotes from 2004, saying that being gay “leads to the personal enslavement of individuals. Because if you’re involved in the gay and lesbian lifestyle, it’s bondage.”

So we’re clear – she can say THAT and it’s not judgmental; but when Piers Morgan points it out, he’s rude?

Notice how she does the “hypnotized” thing near the end and basically ignores what Piers Morgan reads to her.
