I wrote some months back about trans man Aydian Dowling, who was in the running to become the 2015 Men’s Health Ultimate Guy, and in doing so would also be the magazine’s first transgender “Ultimate Guy.”
Today, Dowling shared the news via Facebook that, unfortunately, he didn’t win – this time.
As some of you may already know, I did not get the title of 2015 Mens Health Ultimate Guy. Of course I hold feelings of disappointment for what could have been an amazing opportunity for our visibility as a community. The work we have put in the last 6 months was and is still completely relevant to our movement to full Transgender Rights and Equality. I would like to fully congratulate the winner- Tim, and ALL the other guys who shared this amazing journey with me! For their dedication to their communities and for the new family we have created. I would also like to Thank each and every one of the over 72 THOUSAND people who voted a Transman to the Number 1 spot on the Readers Choice List!
Please do remember that this fight for transgender rights, inclusivity, and visibility is not over! Our community, together with our allies, have made a big mark in the minds and hearts of the main stream media. We joined together and showed that we have a voice that is LOUD and PROUD! Let’s continue this fight and together we will all be embraced for our journey to authenticity.
In the end, the crown went to Tim Boniface, a 6-foot-3, 250-pound firefighter and EMT from Kentucky.
Men’s Health Editor-In-Chief had this to say about Dowling’s finalist status: “Aydian got us thinking about what it means to be a man in 2015. He’s become a leading voice of the transgender community and we feel privileged to share his story and to count him as a member of the Men’s Health family.”
The finalists battle it out on the cover of this week’s issue:
Aydian Ethan Dowling is the current front-runner in Men’s Health Ultimate Guy Search competition. A big deal, right?
Wait – it gets bigger. Should he win, Dowling will become Men’s Health’s first transgender cover model.
Men’s Health says it is looking for a “a guy who is fit and fearless, a doer who gives back and leads by example” to cover its November 2015 issue.
“As a transgender male, having a healthy body and mind is my ultimate goal to find peace within my soul,” Dowling told Men’s Health. “Although I may always have some kind of battle with my body, I continue to work everyday for a happy peace within.”
Dowling became an internet sensation in February, when he posted a revealing re-creation of Adam Levine’s infamous Cosmo magazine cover.
You can vote for Aydian in Men’s Health‘s Ultimate Guy Search here — voting ends June 21.
Once voting closes, judging will be conducted by a panel including fashion designer Kenneth Cole and Sofia Vergara.
Joe Manganiello, leading man and werewolf for the hit series True Blood, shares some tips (and shirtless pics) in the July/August issue of Men’s Health Magazine.
In the accompanying article, Joe mentions that he works out twice a day six days a week.
However, that wasn’t always the case. After appearing in 2002’s Spiderman, his bad habits at the time (two packs of cigarettes and a bottle of whisky a day) caught up to him and he lost his home, car and agents. While kicking those bad habits, he worked as a delivery man and construction worker.
And now we get the demi-god that is Joe Manganiello.
Check magazine stands for your copy of Men’s Health to find out how Joe develops those biceps and triceps.

Just to help you get over hump day, here’s a few pictures from Joe Manganiello’s photo shoot for Men’s Health UK. I don’t know about you but I’m definitely inclined to go buy the magazine now.
And don’t worry, “Magic Mike” movie will be here soon. This is just to tide you over until we get to enjoy Joe as “Big Dick Richie” in the upcoming Soderbergh film.
