2018 LGBT Pride Nights At Major League Baseball

As warm weather finally truly arrives in the month of May, sports fans know we are in the heat of baseball season.

And (most) LGBT baseball fans can look forward to at least one night out where their local team hosts an event just for them.

Outsports reports that 21 of the 30 MLB teams will be hosting some type of Pride event especially for their LGBT fans.

And if you’re a Chicago Cubs fan, you get two LGBT nights (Pride Day – June 10; Out at Wrigley – August 26).

For the most part, however, the events are scheduled to coincide with Pride Month in June.

The majority of these events are coordinated with the team and local organizations, although some, like the Kansas City Royals, have a grassroots-organized Pride Night.

Nine teams, unfortunately, do not have plans to hold any special night for LGBT fans. Those include the Miami Marlins, Cincinnati Reds, New York Yankees, Chicago White Sox, Cleveland Indians, Detroit Tigers, Houston Astros, Los Angeles Angels and the Texas Rangers.

What’s

According to Outsports, only three teams have never had any type of Pride Night: Los Angeles Angels, Cincinnati Reds and the New York Yankees.

Click here for a complete list (at this writing) of Pride Night events hosted by MLB teams this season.

And even if you don’t understand the game all that well, remember there’s other reasons to take in a baseball game – like the players 🙂

Plus, you never know who’s gonna get caught on the Kiss Cam:

Loving The Kiss Cam Action At LA Dodgers’ Pride Night

Over 8,000 fans attending the LA Dodgers Pride Night game last Friday – the most tickets ever sold by a Major League Baseball team for a single Pride Night.

The Dodgers have put much thought into making sure all LGBT Dodger fans feel embraced throughout the night, including:

• The always popular “Kiss Cam” featured several gay and lesbian couples smooching on the Jumbotron.

• The National Anthem was performed by Dot Marie Jones (of GLEE fame) along with the Gay Men’s Chorus and Trans Chorus of Los Angeles.

• LGBT peeps threw out the first pitch.

• There were Pride Night t-shirts created by the Dodgers for the event.

• Pride Night was announced during the game announcements, and signage all over the stadium made clear whose night it was.

Bonus: the home team won with the Dodgers besting the Cincinnati Reds 7-2.

By the way, the Reds don’t have any LGBT fan events like Pride Night, so boo on them. They lost twice that night.

New York Mets To Announce First Ever LGBT Pride Night

Might be hearing some “Hey batta batta batta, swing batta batta” from a lot of LGBT New York Mets fans soon as the team is planning a press conference for Tuesday to announce their first ever LGBT Pride night at Citi Field this season.

From Page Six:

The Mets in the past have hosted events from Fiesta Latina night to Jewish Heritage Day. Other major league teams have hosted LGBT nights.

The Mets will unveil details (including the date) at a press conference Tuesday, with Queens Borough President Melinda Katz, Rep. Steve Israel and LGBT Network CEO David Kilmnick.

“I’m proud to be making this announcement — one, as a lifelong Met fan, and two, we get to beat the Yankees on this,” Kilmnick joked to us.

He added that the team’s “making sure that everyone is welcomed and celebrated at Citi Field.”

Over 5,000 lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender fans are expected at Pride Night, he said, and a portion of all ticket sales will go the LGBT Network’s anti-bullying programs.

The game will be NY Mets vs. San Diego Padres on August 13th – click here for tickets.
