Quote of the day: Christopher Meloni

How do you not love a guy this cool?

LGBT ally and all around hottie Christopher Meloni talking to the Advocate:

“When it comes to homophobia, I think it’s a basic aspect of the human animal, which is to say we fear those things that we don’t know or understand. There’s comfort in tradition and change scares many people on a variety of levels.

“But it’s just sex. Everybody relax. All these arguments against [LGBT equality] is a bunch of flack being thrown up into the air to try to divert attention. Bigots love it when they can grab on to any kind of ‘gay perversion.’ But who are they kidding? Straights are just as perverse. We’re all a bunch of kinks, and we have a degree of kinkiness in all of us.”

Read the whole article because it’s worth it. At one point, when asked if he’s surprised he still has a big gay following since his bisexual role as Chris Keller on HBO’s “Oz” he jokingly answers “With the ass that I’m sporting? No,” he jokes before bursting into laughter.

Don’t miss Meloni’s new series Surviving Jack airing Thursday nights at 9:30/8:30 Central on Fox.

Lynda Carter sends message of support to Sunnie Kahle

Earlier this week, I posted about young Sunnie Kahle, an 8 year-old girl who was kicked out of her Christian grade school for not acting like her “God-ordained identity.”  Basically, she’s a tom-boy.  At age 8, she has no idea what “gender identity” is.

Today, Lynda Carter posted on her Facebook page a message of support to young Sunnie, proving once again that Lynda is, was and always will be a Wonder Woman.

Heineken pulls sponsorship from NYC St. Patrick’s Day Parade over LGBT exclusion

Beer maker Heineken has decided to pull it’s sponsorship of the New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade this Monday over the exclusion of the  LGBT community.

“We believe in equality for all” said a spokesperson for Heineken.

In addition, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio is also boycotting the parade, as is City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito.

The last time a mayor declined to march in the parade up Fifth Ave. was in 1993, when Mayor David Dinkins refused to take part because of the gay issue.

Henry Rollins to haters – “America is on the move, you are not”

(Source)

From pretty brilliant and badass Henry Rollins:

Bad news for the Haters Dept:

You realize that all those obnoxious 16-year-olds you see everywhere, texting their friends who are standing next to them, will be able to vote in the 2016 elections.

Do you think you will be able to sell them on your anti-gay/anti-woman/anti-brown/black platform?

Do you think they want to end up like you?

I bet they don’t.

Gov. Bobby Jindal said that you all have to stop being teh stupid party.  I don’t think you can do it.

How did equality become political?  Because you can’t handle science, change or the truth.

America is on the move, you are not.

Florida: Sharon Gless records video in support of marriage equality

LGBT ally Sharon Gless has recorded a video in support of marriage equality in Florida, where she has had a home for 20 years.

The video is in support of Equality Florida’s Get Engaged campaign, with which Gless has been active for some time. “I can’t imagine what my life would be like if someone told me I couldn’t marry the person I love,” she says in the video. “Yet that is what is going on in the state of Florida every day, when they tell thousands of men and women that they cannot have what want we all want.”

Arizona Rep. Chad Campbell on CNN: “License to discriminate” bill is bad for Arizona

Arizona state Rep. Chad Campbell speaks during debate on legalizing LGBT discrimination

LGBT ally Arizona Rep. Chad Campbell appeared on CNN today to talk about HB-2153 which passed last night in the Arizona state House.

The legislation, if signed into law, would legalize the ability to discriminate against any LGBT person based on someone’s religious beliefs.

Rep. Campbell is currently Democratic Minority Leader in the Arizona House and was a strong voice against the bill yesterday.

Chelsea Clinton speaks to HRC Foundation conference in Las Vegas

Former First daughter and Clinton Foundation Vice Chair Chelsea Clinton spoke about the importance of supporting LGBTQ Youth at the inagural Human Rights Campaign Foundation “Time to THRIVE” Conference.

The 33-year-old daughter of former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told the audience, “LGBTQ rights [are] the unfinished business of the 21st century.”

Currently a special correspondent for NBC news, Clinton said she does not plan to run for office in the future. Instead, she hopes to dedicate some of her clout to bringing an end to bullying.
